I was after a new look for the old dash ...
Do believe I accomplish that goal ..

Far from a color match ..
But with the amount of work that it took to get the dash to this point, I'm going to fly with it as it is .
Later on in the day, going to install the dash in the truck with doing a test fit of the column ..
Since the lower column firewall mount was modified, pretty sure the upper mount will need some fine tuning ..

Didn't get back to the dash ..
Got sidetracked !
And a problem stuck it's ugly head up that requires more tooling ($$) to cure ..

More body work ...
Welded up all unused holes and epoxy primered ..
Did the engine bay side with bed liner ..
The front of the inner fenders and radiator tins seen epoxy Hot-Rod black ..
Thinking the Hot-Rod black might look better than the bed-liner looking through the T-Rex grill ..
That part of the doing is done and over, should keep the rust at bay for a long time to come ..

The Rat motor should look pretty good sitting in the engine bay ...

Bout that time to start in on building the heads ...
Oversize valves might net a few more ponies ..
Intakes are 2.250", exhaust are 1.880" with 11/32" stems ...
Been slow buying up the needed parts ..
Did nail down a set of semi roller rocker arms ..
Guides, springs, retainers/locks and seals are on the yet to get list ...

Been one major chore finding Oem parts for a 1954 orphan truck ...
Was needing some body clips for the inner fenders ... IH had their own gig going on in that department ..
What came off the truck wasn't in the best of shape ...
71 years took it's toll on the critters ...
Called a bunch of companies with no luck finding these Bad-Boys, until ...
NOS are on the way ..
That was a stroke of luck finding 70 year old, new shi .. errr .. stuff !!

What my main concern is doing away with all the custom (Store bought & homespun) parts that's on the 454 ...
The Gen VII is a whole new ballgame, nothing interchanges ...
Goodbye Mercruiser oil pan, Milodon timing cover, air gap intake, aluminum water pump, not to mention the Bad-Boy Comp cam & lifters ...
Would be starting at ground zero all over again with the L-18 ...
Do like the idea of having GM's 496 inches from the get-go ... Would save a bundle of green it's going to take to buy the rotating assembly for turning the 454" into a 496"
As far as L-18 being underpowered, there's a cure for dat ....
All it takes is a world of work, a ski mask and a Seven -Eleven !!

Guides came in, jumped too on installing them ...
These are well made by 'Competition Products'
Soon to size the I.D. and start chewing some meat out for the oversize valves ...

Thanks .. It's growing on me ..
Changing game plan with the Big Block motor ...
Had the need for some tools .. Wanted to finish building the 781 heads, but the tooling I have wasn't going to do the job ...
As always needed some bucks to buy what was needed ..
Being the 4-bolt main block was going to be a long time build, I sold it ..
The 2-bolt motor will go in the truck for the time being, I'll find another 4-bolt Mark IV down the road .. And start all over with building a 496" ..
Head tools are on order ..
The Fellow who bought the 4-bolt block wants me to finish building it ..
Looking like it's going to be a stroker 496" afterall .. Got a rotating assembly on order ..
Going in a 1960 Chevy pickup .. Teramax 5 speed tranny .. Should be a fun truck to drive (If ya can keep rear tires on the critter?)
