R-100 4X4

Won't know till it's in my hands ...
Been eyeballing what aftermarket has available ..., Most likely I'll need to fab one up along with a dipstick ...

Return spring is installed ...
Thought was to find something fancy, but didn't go that route ...
This worked and was under 10 bucks ...

Didn't get that huge oil pan ...

Went with this pan instead, also from a boat motor Mercruiser ..
Reason for this pan was the grooves ...

Matches the valve covers ...

Wasn't a plug & play install, the oil pump pickup tube that the motor came with was hitting the internal casted in baffles of the aluminum pan ..
Tried to buy a new Mercruiser tube, seems that they are gone hadn't been made in 30+ years ..
Went on the hunt for a used one .. After bout 50 calls to boat shops all over the country, had no luck ..
Decided to see if the aftermarket had a tube that would work.
Got one coming, made by Melling ..
Thoughts was to get a new pump from Melling on the same order ..
Took the GM pump, that came on the motor, apart just for a look-see ..
Found it looking like brand new .. Replaced the gasket and back into service it'll go ..

Almost a inch gap ... That Melling tube was to short ..
Ordered the next size up from Melling ...

That one was to long, but with a little bending got it to work okay ...

Found the used GM windage plate and main cap bolts ..
Their on the way to me, soon to order the aftermarket screen type windage plate and the crank scraper ..

Oil pan been somewhat of a PITA to get it to work, but do think I'm on the downhill slide now ..
Still have the dipstick to contend with, making up a custom that will reach up to the radiator in turn making it easy to check the oil level without climbing on the truck ...

Well Poo !

Won't be getting the Moon cover ..
The deal was beginning to smell like a scam .. He wouldn't do PayPal wanted to use Zell ...

Oh well ... Nailed down a new cover that will work with a short water pump and a double roller timing chain ...

Still scouting for a set of 781 BBC heads ... Slowly making progress on the motor ..

The idea here is to keep me from climbing on the truck in order to pour oil in it ...

The GM alt bolted right up ...
I'm using a 200 amp Powerhouse aftermarket alt which has a bigger housing than the GM ...

That work out very well ..

Next was to do the inner stick ..

485734250_10232887124218977_2508225726447591057_n.jpg

Part stores had this uni ... It wasn't long enough ...
Found a fairly long stick for a Ford F350 ...
That got it in the ballpark, needed just a small amount of trimming to see the full level on the stick ...

Soon will be time to install it in the truck ...

Been finding parts to build a 496 inch ...
The 781 heads will be seeing a bunch of work done on them (11/32" stems, OS valves, bronze guides) they will be used on this motor build ...

Also found a 4 bolt main block that's in a junkyard that's soon to be the foundation for the 496".
Most parts that's in the 454 will be going in this monster motor ..
Be awhile building it cause the stroker rotating assembly is up there in bucks ..

1734895037128.png

Must go after the block, hoping it's sound ...

Whoa !!

Holy blowup piston, Batman ..

Don't look like the block was damaged from what I can see ..
Going to tear it down and wash it up for a super hard look at that hole ..

Ran the numbers on the block, this motor is the last year of the Mark IV's 1990 ...
Seen a bit of Hot-Rodding done to it.
It has a Hi-Flow oil pump, double roller cam chain and a Bad-Boy Bumpstick ..
Only thing I'm after is the 4-bolt main block for the foundation of the 496" motor build ..

Soon to see what there is to see ...

Well Poo ... Glad it's just a scar and not a crack ... Was planning on boring it anyways ...

Let's see if .030" will clean it up .. ??
