sweet. Too bad the temp got up there. Thermastat in backwards? Not un heard of with them being deffective from off the shelf newly purchased. Happened to me once a few years ago. Hope it goes well. Maybe cruise it up here some time. Would love to see it in person

Scooter. I'm thinking the same thing also. Gonna pull the stat and make sure. I'm also afraid the temp sender or gauge May be off so I'm grabbing an ir temp gauge to make sure. I knew my first ever engine install and rewire would have some issues and I'm pleased that there are so few........ So far......... When I get it registered I will definitely come check out your man cave/shop. Thanks for all the compliments so far.

Sorry to hear about the leaky troubles. I'm sure it's a little discouraging after all the work you have put into your project. I find taking a day or two break from something like that and do something else unrelated. Kinda helps re-coupe. Hope the kinks get worked out, as to that I would love to see your rig rolling around town on its own power.

Finally got the water tube to seal yesterday. Had the truck running great and then nothing. Ran through a bunch of diagnostics and have come to the conclusion that the old prestolite module has quit on me. Since it is the only "old" part still left in the ignition it makes sense. I already have a pertronix that I will be swapping in.

So for the time being I decided to start sound proofing the interior. I have an acc carpet kit waiting to be installed so now is the perfect time. Here are a couple pics of the sound proofing. I used peel n seal from lowes. I read numerous positive things about it and decided that I just couldn't justify spending $300 on dynamat. I will however end up using dynamat for the top.

Nice update and a great tip about buying the sound deadener form loews! I have been following your thread for a long time. Every time I think about taking a short cut on my rig, I read your post.

So I've been addicted to working on the interior of the truck lately. I have been able to get the carpet 90% installed. I haven't glued down the drivers firewall or the rear footwell drop. I also was able to get the passenger seat and seatbelt installed. I'm using corbeau moab seats with corbeau 3-point seat belts. I also picked up an entire stereo awhile back. It's a kenwwod head unit, kenwood 4 channel amp, infinity 6.5's in the rear, infinity 5.5's in the front, and an infinithy self powered 10" sub. I have installed all of the stereo except for the speakers for the front doors. Those will have to wait until the doors get re-upholstered. I was also able to get my new plastic glove box that I picked up from IH only installed along with the glove box door that I had painted awhile back. I mounted my amp/sub distribution box to the back of the glove box. The dash is really starting to take shape. Here are some pics of the finished products.

Couple shots of the amp mounted under the passenger seat base. The seat is much tougher to install with an amp underneath it. I'm hoping that the drivers side will be much easier.

Stock sliders attached directly to the corbeau seats. They sit fine right now. We'll see when the drivers seat gets installed if they sit too high or not. The seats have the same dimensions as the high back buckets I pulled out.

Here you can see the glove box door installed. It lines up perfectly.

Rear carpet and speakers installed. Carpet is acc essex with mass back. This carpet is very nice and fit extremely well. There is some trimming involved which is to be expected but overall I am very pleased with the fit.

Obviously I have no road time in them but from what I can tell they are very comfortable seats. (spent about 5 minutes sitting in the passenger seat once it went in. Just couldn't resist.) they seem very well made, "pleather" is high quality, and had the same dimensions as the stock high backs. It just made the most sense in this case to replace rather than re-upholster. I would highly recommend these seats to you or anyone.

Couple updates on the build:

finished installing the other front seat. Seating position using the stock seat bases is perfect for me. I really like how they turned out.

Also needed to install a pertronix that I've had sitting around for awhile due to the prestolite module going bad on me. Not sure why I didn't install this when I had the distributor out for paint. The install for the pertronix is pretty straight forward. Also picked up a new vac advance from IH only. Old vac advance was shot.

The distributor should be in great shape now. End play was measured at .038. Sensor to trigger gap was set to .008.

I was planning on running the wires underneath the base plate but reconsidered once the vac advance went in. They May or May not have been in the way. I decided not to take the chance.

Looks like an awesome project. Good find at that price. You are right. Looks like the previous owner wired it in the dark. Lol had two electrical fires in mine before I got her right. Best of luck!

Thank god for daylight savings time. I should have the daylight time after work now to actually start getting things done again. I will be pulling the rear axle out from underneath and giving it the same treatment that I gave the front. All new brake hardware (it will stay drums), bearings, retainer plates, extended brake line, fluid, diff gasket, and a full sand and paint. Just got the extended front brake lines in yesterday along with the new auto meter senders that I needed for the temp and oil pressure gauges. The stock Scout senders weren't sending the proper signals. Also included a couple pics of how the engine compartment is coming together with the booster and mc installed. Still have to cover the rest of the wires, route the plug wires how I want them and add separators, and once the engine is dialed in I will re-attach all the vacuum hoses to their correct ports. They are all plugged right now.

Thx doc. I had originally wanted to do hydro boost and rear discs but after pricing out new components I decided it just wasn't needed. If/when I need to change the rear brakes in the future I May consider it but the costs were prohibitive at this point.

Pulled the rear axle today and ground off all the grime and rust. There was a solid 2" of some sort of tar/grease/mud mixture on the underside of the pumpkin. Needless to say I'm glad that's all done. Put a couple coats of primer on and am now adding 3 coats of the eastwood extreme chassis satin black. Shot a coat of black on the new drums as well. Hope to get to the bearings, brakes, retainer plate, brake lines, and new fluid this weekend. Here's a couple pics of before and after.

It can be both. For the frame I brushed it on. I have since started using the cans for smaller parts and the axles. I've been pretty impressed with the stuff. We'll see how it holds up.

Got the old bearings off and new bearings pressed on over the weekend. They're timken set 10 with national seals. Axles in and all new brake hardware on. Thicker CPT retainer plates and everything is put back together except for the diff cover. Axles and rear diff looked to be in great shape.

Put in some Energy Suspension poly shackle bushings. I forgot to do this when I swapped in the new springs and decided since the rear end was out now was the most opportune time. Using a ball joint press made getting the old rubber bushings out very easy. Also pulled out the rear driveshaft to clean up, paint, and replace the u joints. Here are some pics.

Here's a pic of one of the spacers that I put back on the passenger side. After the suspension settled I needed them to level the truck out. I will be putting one back on the front as well. I measured them at 1/4" for those wondering.

Diff sealed up and driveshaft installed. Went to put on the rear brake line extension and had to cut off the old line because it had rusted solid. I will need to re-flare the line now. Once I get the rear brake lines re-installed the brakes are all ready to go. Will need to fill the system and bleed. Puts me very close to being able to get this thing on the street.

got the new IH only 5" shackles installed along with the new poly shackle bushings. The shackles along with the addition of the spacers has made the truck perfectly level. The old shackles were in pretty rough shape. The bolt holes had elongated by almost 1/4" in some spots.

got the rear brake lines installed after having to re-flare the main rear brake line. If you're wondering if you should attempt this yourself then read this thread I started. Some very helpful thought processes in here.

also got the front fenders installed and it's the first time I've seen the truck this way in about 1 1/2 years. You can get a good feel for the final stance. The suspension will settle a bit but for what I was going for I'm very pleased. I plan on driving this thing for awhile before I pull the body apart and do a major overhaul on the bodywork.
