The on going evolution of my '69 800A

Sad times are upon me, my Dad passed 2 months ago. My Mom passed 5 days ago. My Scout passed yesterday. I drove her about 6 miles to a side job on Saturday. She started leaking in front of the house next door to destination. It was the freeze plug on the block down by the fuel pump. Took 2 trips to get the right size but I got it in. I popped a small hole in 2 radiator tubes putting it all back together in the dark. Sunday went back tried to solder the radiator, didn't work. Tried pinching the 2 tubes. One sealed the other still leaked but minor. So drove her home. She ran like a champ. Got home and popped the hood to find the whole front of the engine, underside of the hood, fenders and alternator were drenched with oil. Apparently the gasket on the fuel pump did not reseal. I let her sit until this morning when I pulled the fuel pump back off to apply rtv and re install. Only to find the white milky foamy crap that shows water in the oil. I pulled the dip stick to find the same thing along with rust spots above the fluid levels. She never overheated so I guess I must have punched a hole between the water and oil jackets while trying to get the old freeze plug off. I doubt I can come up with another motor scenario like I had with Danny. I just don't know what happened, only had about 80 miles on this motor, maybe this was why it was in the back of Danny's Scout and not under the hood. I am just spent, emotional bankrupt. I have nothing left and now lost my only transportation again.

Well brother I cant fix much of your current state. I cant replace ur folks. However I have an 85 irocz for sale. I have a 304, 345 and 392 laying around ur welcome too. I have a plethora of shit if u need anything. I also have a hand to lend and a shoulder to lean on man. If u need anything let me know. I'll help however I can. If all else fails you can drive my cub cadet around. Its only got 15ft/lbs of torque but it does 15mph and gets 44mpg. Plus it says IH on it. Dont worry man. Shit can only get better from here. U know ur binder brothers got your back

Ron - sorry to hear about this. This too shall pass. It could only get better from here. Patience my friend. Sorry for not replying back to your text the other night. Had phone calls while eating dinner and then forgot to bring my phone into work today. We will get you back rolling once again. Talk soon

Doesn't make sense that I could have broken a wall between fluid jackets trying to take out a freeze plug, and the motor is running so good. I am revising my theory to water must have gushed into fuel pump hole when I popped the freeze plug. So as soon as I can afford it I will change the oil and filter, run the motor for a minute and see if she's ok. That would make more sense than a motor this fresh blowing a gasket.

Hey ron, sorry to hear about your folks. I lost my Mom and Dad in 1996, like scooter said it does get better from hear. I would loosen the oil pan drain plug when the engine is cold and try to collect the oil/water in a clear container to determine how much water is in the oil. If no water is present, an oil change should remove the water in the pan and filter then get the engine to operating temp and run for at least 30 minutes and that should get rid of any water vapor. On a different subject I just blew the front pump/torgue converter seal so I get to drop the tranny. I'm sorry I didn't know the history of that engine. It never was in my Scout, just an extra one they wanted to get rid of. Danny

Don't worry Danny you did me a huge favor and the motor I think is going to be fine. I have verified there's no oil in the water, it's going to take a minute to get the right oil and do an oil change but I think it was just spilled in there by me.

I was hoping it would be that way. I got the transmission drained and the pan pulled. No shiny stuff, just a little black fine stuff. So I should be ok to put a new seal and bushing on the front pump. I think I will change the torque converter any way because the ring gear is very worn. I hope everything goes well for you ron. Danny

Well, ron's Scout seems to act like a timex and keeps ticking. The new motor still seems to be running good. And will run a little better once we take the time to install the pertronix, that has been purchased already, into the current dizzy.

Last weekend, we finally hooked up for me to install a shackle reversal kit. I won't get into details of what else went on during that time, but the kit made a huge difference on how his Scout handles. Ron was so amazed that he almost couldn't contain himself. another successfull install of quality parts, thanks to IH Parts America.

Here's a preview of the fangs tacked into place, while I drill holes into the frame for the sleeve for the shackle hangers.

back to that weak prostate huh. Well good deal. Thats gonna be one mean little Scout

Well, probably after thanksgiving, the next phase of work will be scheduled. We have a new kwik wire 14 curcuit wire harness and new steering linkage to be installed. Along with fixing body mount bushing bracket and new bushings. The body leans too much to the driver side

Mine used to. Just assumed its cause my grandpa was fat and ruined the old bushings. Cant wait to see the finished product

I am glad to see scooter is keeping up on my thread. Having a new girlfriend in sacramento (86 miles) takes up a lot of time, but when you find a beautiful lady who loves you and Scout's you just gotta make it work. So here are the latest

This is a shot I had to take because the writing on the side walls matched up perfectly. Also shows the new all terrain tas

I had to crash through and around two locked gates to position Scout front and center at my buddies wedding out on the delta, because who doesn't want a Scout in all their wedding pictures.

My daughter blew the transmission seals on her new '67 ltd which ultimately lead to this scenario. "69 Scout 800a towing a '67 ltd from berkeley to concord.

Last week going up monument blvd in concord a high speeed pursuit veered off onto my side of the road to avoid the head on Scout and I skidded sideways where the car following then hit scouts left rear quarter pannel and rear bumper.

When it rains, it pours. Hope you're ok. Was a police report was made? Maybe the other person's insurance or concord pd could pay for the damages.
