The on going evolution of my '69 800A

Well - he purposely avoided including the better looking Scout II that is parked behing that midget. Lol - just kidding ron. Since there are currently 4 scouts here in my work shop, 3 of them being Scout II's. And still have plenty of room to work

I dont blame him. All them scouts is something to drool over but of course we all think ours deserves the most attention

Hey runner, thanks for the kind words. Of course we all love our scouts and runners threads shows some cool stuff. Not saying mine is better than anyone elses, but the 100" wheelbase and stock gears do show this rig was designed as a true wheeler. I would think the off road purest would only be in the 80/800s. That's just me of course and the scoutiis while big do look great.

Anytime brother. I think my terra is dammed special with its little 304 and 4.09's all stock. But them little un's hold a special place in the auto world. They showed that class aint measured in how much it cost or how big o' fins it has. Its about being able to get the job done as best as possible and dem little workhorses did it. All IH products did it. Made by working men for working men. All there is to it. Cant wait to see what it looks like when its done. Good luck and spend lots o money on it so I feel better when I dont have none either

Hells I'd love me one of them shorties, sadly im in co not CA. But that thing needs to go to one who loves them binders as much as me. Dont let that little bugger ever see one of dem ugly small blocks

The spare motor that was donated and droped off with ron and his baby Scout seems to be in good condition. A lot of thanks goes out to Danny phillips the spare motor apparently came out of a 78 smoged motor. When we pulled one of the valve covers off, had a good wiff of the raw fuel from running real Rich. This motor was ran with penzoil crapola with the added smell of used oil and tarnish carbon deposits on the inside of the valve covers. The valve train looks to be in great shape. Pulled the oil pan and had the same Rich smell with a touch of used oil, and the typical penzoil crapola. The cylinder walls still had the hone marks from what looked like a fresh rebuild or that the motor has very little milage on it. New gasket and put the oil pan back on.

This morning I poured almost 2 gallons of fresh oil in with a new filter mounted and proceeded to prime the system. After about 15 to 20 minutes with the hand drill and then light turning of the crank the valve trian on both banks was getting a great oil bath. Ron May have some pics to post up soon enough. We May even have the motor stabed into it's proper place

As promissed I have a couple of quick phone snaps. This motor looks great. Danny you have really made an impact on me and Scout. This motor is a real game changer in ending a bad streak. The motor has been stripped down all smog stuff off the intake stripped, blocked off, and a fresh coat of International red. Salvaged from the old motor are the water pump, alternator bracket, idler pully, valve covers, oil pan, coil, dip stick, carburetor, flywheel and starter. I am excited about the electronic ignition distributor, and the mechanical fuel pump!

As of this after noon, the spare motor is installed and everything is hooked up. Cranks over, but haven;t actually started yet. First had to bypass the mechanical fuel pump and hook electric pump. Getting fuel to carb but no full spark. Lack of time this evening to fully go through the ignition system. This 304 motor that came out of a 78 has the presto dizzy. I'm almost considering that the guts are shot but too soon to tell. I'll know more within the week.

Hey everyone, I had really hoped to fire the old girl up this last weekend, but all the little things it takes to tie in a new motor stacked up against the clock and time just wouldn't slow down enough for scooter and I to work out all the kinks. I did get to snap a few phone pics to show how comfortably this new 304 is fitting in to her new digs.

Gawd darn. That is one pretty little motor in there. Fire that puppy up and drag main street. If a little ricer wants to race just swerve off the line. Save the world wreck a ricer

Naaa just drive over them rice rockets and keep going. Just like driving over a speed bump in the IH.

Soon enough will be fired up. Currently weeding out dizzy stuff at the moment. The prestolite dizzy that came on this used motor might need work. I borrowed mine from my motor that has pertronics. Better but not firing yet. I May have it 180 out. And I'm calling it a night. 10 hour work days makes for long day to come work on the hobbies

I tell u what. I've got a dt360 sitting in my back yard with a turbo setup. I say we make rons little 800 roll coal :winky:

do an 8in stack right through the back seat. Perfect edition for a little quarter mile Scout lol

I'm so glad that motor is in so good of condition. I'm really happy it went to someone who could really use it. I hated to have it sitting around doing nothing. Can't wait to see it run, you guys are really rockin that.

Should be running this weekend Danny, I can't wait o see it run too! Thanks to scooters magic ability in unbending my drag link, once we get her going I'll be able to drive her home!

I'm going to throw a party fr you guys with root beer and real cheese itz. Well maybe not that fancy but something.

@runner 1/4 mile Scout? Lol if it does that 1/4 mile off road I guess I could live with that. Hee hee

Hell buddy with that dt360 we could put wings on it and it would do that 1/4 over land sea or air. Oh well them 304's is the quickest of the 3 engines I'd put in a Scout so im guessing it'll pull 19's in a 1/4 mile and still tear through mud, rocks, and ricers just as well. Just not my pumpkin ricer :nono:

Well, this is incouraging. Just got it fired up briefly. And from the sound of things, this used motor seems to run smooth. Still needs some fine tuning for the dizzy and the carb needs adjustments in order to keep the motor running long enough to actually time the thing. This is all from using my own prestolite dizzy with pertronics with new cap & rotor from my own Scout. After working 8 hours over time today, I'm whooped and calling it a night.

In the morning, I plan on swapping the old prestolite dizzy, that this motor came with, back in to confirm my thoughts on weather or not if it's faulty. Kinda hearing the chimes of new parts being ordered for this evolution

Well if it needs a new carb or anything just buzz me. Be happy to overnight anything. I know u got plenty of places to buy  but if anything major goes wrong I have alot of crap I'd fork over for free to u IH geezers

Thanks for the offer. But it's more along the lines of new pertonics upgrade along with rotor & cap for the old dizzy that came with this used motor, that I pulled out to utilize a known good unit that has already been updated and new.

Will know more tomorrow when we get started actually working. None of that yellow stuff either. Mellow, yes, but definately not yellow.

As far as the current carb goes, we swapped the carb from the old motor that we pulled out. So far all it seems to need is some minor adjustments here and there and we May be good to go. Won't know till we get going
