The on going evolution of my '69 800A

After taking a week or two off, for some much needed r & r, I started getting back to work on ron's baby Scout. Sorry ron, but I kinda needed a little time off from the caos.

Finally was able to pull the steering wheel off this weekend. Had to drill out a broken stud and re-tap the threads for 1/4-28 bolts in order to use my steering wheel puller. Then pulled out the old column wiring with no surprise with a few of the wires showing thier 40+ year old age, and stung in the new column wiring. Hopefully I will complete the new wire harness install next weekend.

In the mean time, I got a little side tracked with replacing the non existant old body mount bushings. One body mount bushing bracket was broken off the frame. I just finished making the replacement. Now I need to go grind the old crap off the frame to burn in this new piece

Well, I just fired up this little baby Scout. Damn she sounds smooth. Seems to run better the more I work on it. Don't think it's ran this good in many years.

I still have a couple things to button up before ron can drive it off. But he's up playing skipper on a 3 hour tour. Maybe next weekend he just might get happy again to be able to drive his Scout again.

Lots more projects to be done on this baby. But will have to wait till after I get one of my own scouts running first

Ron aint gonna be too happy when he wakes up to see the photo I sent him of his rear axle. The rear-end has had a slight leak through the cover gasket all the while I been working on it. This morning, I finally got around to deciding to go ahead with the gear oil change. And to my amazement, there's a chipped tooth on the ring gear. And from looking at a few of the other teeth, they looked a little pitted from prior rust.

Sorry ron, but it looks like ya need a rebuild of your rear-end.
