Got some work to do in order to make this look good ..

Was thinking about doing a chrome powdercoat on them ..
But, being the bumpers and running boards are gloss back, they may look better shot with black powder ??

Whatcha think Guys ??

The LED's are super bright ... Not sure if reflection would matter a great deal ??
They should show up tomorrow, I'll wire them up for a test ..

My neighbor allowed me to make a templet from his 48 Buick ...

Shot it with black powder, wanted to see how the chrome powder would look ?

.080" oversize is a bit much especially when the block was std bore to start off with ..
The way I got it figured, if you're not living on the edge you're taking up too much room !

This block is a 1990 Mark IV ( Last year for the Mark IV's ) out of a truck ... No core shift, I know it's not wise to go that much oversize, but I'm after BIG cubes ...

( That reminds me to charge up my Mojo )

There is a spacer ring that bridges the open gap to support the oil ring ..
Some wild engineering went down to allow a stroker crank to be used in a standard deck height big block ..

Did think about building a high deck block, but the dollar amount was going to be up there ..
I still have a 2003 Gen VII in the shop that I thought about building for the Binder ... It's 496 cubes from the factory .. Reason I'm not building it is, it's too new. Last of the Big Blocks from GM ..

The Mark IV'S been around since 1965 and was better suited for a old truck ...
Lot more goodies on the market for them than the Gen VII's ...

BTW ... Lookie what followed me home the other day ...

3-71 Blower ... Have no clue what I'll use it for, to small for the motor I'm building ...
Bout the right size for a flathead Ford V-8 ..
Guess I'll sell it for a few C notes ..

Bore notching should help those oversize valves breath better ...

Honing is slow go doing it by hand ...

Going with 100 grit stones to .002" of final size ... once I get there I'll change the stones to 280 grit and hone to .0005" of finish size ... That last .0005" will be honed out using 400 grit stones ..

Not done with honing the bores just yet .
Got the Plateau honing to do ..

Plateau honing is an advanced cylinder wall finishing process that creates a surface with smooth, flat "plateaus" on top for low-friction piston ring contact, while retaining deep "valleys" underneath for oil retention, improving engine sealing, reducing friction, shortening break-in, and increasing engine life by removing jagged peaks and torn metal from the initial bore. It's achieved using fine abrasive brushes or stones after coarse honing to level the peaks without eliminating the essential oil-holding troughs.
