New Members please check in here

Hello all,

Thought I would introduce myself. I'm Phil from Buckley Washington. Just bought a 1927 IH 1 Ton 6 Speed Special. Can't wait to learn all about this old truck. I have no idea how to even start a hand crank motor. I will do my due diligence to search for information on here for manuals and parts. Any and all help along the way would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Phil

Hey folks, just purchased a '73 1210 4x4 Camper Special a few months ago. It's my first IH and it needed a little work to get it road ready, though the 392 still runs strong! It's been fun sourcing parts and working on it this summer--that's how I ended up here! I'm looking forward to putting many many miles on this truck.

Welcome new members. very good looking trucks you have there. Both of you are not too far from Grass Valley. Would love to see these trucks at next months IH Sierra Fall Rallye. More info here about the event - http://ihsfr.org/

Or check out the events Facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/IHSFR

Hi Scout fans, I’m just checking in. I am rebuilding a 1969 800A. It’s pretty beat up but that’s what I’m here for. A little tlc and that is when the fun really begins.

Present and accounted for!
Just brought home a '79 Scout II, it runs but need to replace the water pump and thermostat before I can drive it a little more to figure out what needs to be replaced next. I've been reviewing a lot of threads for info, thanks for all your input. Standby for questions...

Hello,
I'm a new member, bought my first Binder a few weeks ago. A 1967 1/2 ton somethin' er other. 1000, 1100, 1200, heck I don't know and neither did the seller.
It's my first relic in 14 years so I'm having a blast getting back into it.
I was combing Craigslist while working in Santa Fe and the scallops and stance got me. It's got a V-8, not sure what size yet but it runs smooth with no smoke, granny four speed, and I'm not sure what ratio I have in the rear end. The discovery is part of the fun for me.
I've enjoyed combing through forum here. Thanks!

Hi Everyone. Jose here from Martinez. I purchased my 1963 Scout 80 about a month ago from Oregon. My plan is to restore my Scout to a near-factory look.

Hello all, I am new to the IH ownership fun. I am not new to auto repair, but have no experience with IH values.
I am here to determine if a 1971 1210 Travellette, 345, Holley 2bbl, 4sp, 8' bed, factory AC, rough body, one owner farm truck with 68000 miles when parked in a pasture 28 years ago, is worth bringing back to life? I have brought it home,, cleaned out the chaos and put a few days in to get all four hubs to turn freely, motor running. The brakes will need complete hardware and hydraulics, hoses replaced. The drums are rusted but salvageable, bearings seem smooth but have not pulled the hubs to inspect. The interior is amazingly intact and unmolested, but 50 years old. Overall this truck mechanically is untouched, rust-through at the windshield corners, but only surface rust on the rest. This is a long introduction so I will stop here and wait for any replies to see if pictures are desired or is this scrap.
Thank you for your time and any reply.

Welcome! Hell yes, pictures are always encouraged. Without them, it's impossible to give any kind of meaningful assessment, but from your description, this doesn't sound like a scrap heap. These trucks rolled off the assembly line rusty. If it isn't totally rotten everywhere, then it's worth saving. I'd suggest starting your own introductory or build thread on it under basic tech questions or something like that though.

I'd say it deserves a new lease on life. That surface rust is just patina. The rage nowadays is to preserve that patina with clearcoat instead of repainting. Did you say you got the engine running? Hopefully those front drums are still within spec diameter wise. They're unobtainium. The interior looks better than average.

The engine does run, I have not run it much as the rad and water pump are off for clean out of cooling system. The carb was clean and needed only gaskets for meter block and bowl. I pulled the plugs and used gas mixed with 2 stroke oil to lube the cylinders. When I was removing the wheels I had to put the trans in 1st gear to get the lug nuts loose because whoever put them on last used wayyyy to much cowbell to tighten them.Grrrrr. That turned the motor and bent two push rods. New pushrods on the way. Straightened bent rods, freed the valves and rotated the motor with starter to circulate the oil. Started up and ran with new oil and filter. Brazed one of the coolant tubes, 115.00 for a new one? nope.

Nice old truck. I've got it's twin brother in green. They all have windshield rust. Where are yo located, I've got some things you might want?

Thank You! You may well be right about parts.
I live 70 miles north of Dallas, near Sherman Tx. I may need some parts that are not readily available from retail sources but so far only know I need brake parts, hydraulic and hard parts. The wiring under the hood has suffered somewhat, but I have not begun to take inventory of that. My goal with this truck is reliability but not restoration. Tomorrow I will be away from the internet but Tuesday should a day in the shop.(y)

Welcome
I'm a hop skip and a jump away in Richmond
Thanks Scooter. I've been struggling with getting my Scout to run again since I brought it down from Oregon. Since you're in my area, are there any shops close to Martinez that you would recommend?

Not really. Not too many quality shops, locally, that know much about these old rigs. I have had to fix a few jobs after so called professional shop did repairs on a few other scouts. If you need help, I'm usually available on the weekends. Feel free to message me, if you like

Hello All...

I live in Kingman, Arizona and have been driving Internationals since before I was legally allowed too. My 1972 Scout 2 was purchased new from the factory for my mom. Years later that same scout brought me home from the hospital and was my parents only vehicle until I was 2 years old. A wet sheet over my car seat served as a swamp cooler in the Arizona heat. I would later drive that Scout all through high school (Nothing like 240 air). I have done very little to that Scout and now drive it daily back and forth to soccer practice. My kids love the Scout! I have loved these vehicles as long as I can remember. My mother grew up on a ranch in Montana near Yellowstone and my grandfather was an avid International die hard! From IH farm equipment to the IH trucks and scouts.

I also have a 1972 1210 4x4, and I just got a 1974 Scout 2. (Both AZ with very little rust)

Just like the title says. Please let us know a little about yourself and how you found the forum.
Bought a 69 Scout 800A and ready to tear it apart and put it back together new. Wanted a place to converse with other Scout owners on logistics, parts and advise. Might want to put an LS conversion in replace of the 304, however seeing if anyone else has tackled this and what hurdels and challenges they faced.
Max

Found this forum through a search for International Harvester info. I just sold a 1967 1100 B that I’ve had for four years and acquired a 1968 1000 C that I will start a restoration on in the coming months.

Found these guys along time ago. 15 plus years. I’ve had my 1963 scout since around 2000 when I found it in a junk yard as a barely rolling body. I believe light line told me about this place when I was searching for parts. One day I called for some brake parts and found that there was a lot of changes and a move. Glad to see it’s still going strong with new and old members. 1821701E-B395-49A2-940B-22DAC303ED4F.jpegE7BDDF07-1F04-453B-B86C-59E560B5C36A.jpegEC7B695C-C289-4F58-A5EE-2B529E58F05E.jpeg
