ENGINE NOISE

you're saying 3.54 is a good gear ratio for 33-35" tires? That would be great if I don't have to do any gear changing! I already talked to Darren at ihonlynorth and he priced me up a set with all the bells and whistles... I just can't afford that much right now but I'm definitely inclined to find some way to do it, just to give them my support. Anyone have an axle you're looking to get rid of??? I'll post a quick thread in the wanted section.
Thanks

I misunderstood, I thought you wanted to retain the 31" tires!

For much more serious trail use I'd run 4.56 or at the minimum 4.10. Either of those will involve changing both carriers in your existing axles as the 3.54 carriers won't work for those gears.

I don't have any axles available myself, but they are readily available here in the northwest (sii applications). Several members around here have swapped their sii d44 axles for other stuff out of their trail rigs and have a set already set up with the lower gears.

Ok tell me what you think of this? I think it would work for an SOA but it's 5 on a 4.5 bolt pattern, I think that's Jeep and Ford? This looks like an axle that I saw in one of dcextremes builds a while back. It already has disc breaks. The guys at the yard said he'd give it to me for 300 including the driveline, which seems like it's in good condition. I think it's a Ford 9".
The measurement is center of rotor to center of rotor.

Honestly I'm more pissed off about the body work that I have to do than anything. The body on this truck was so straight.... Now I have to really bend some metal. Owell. And don't get me wrong, I'm counting my blessings. I'm glad I decided to drive the truck to work as a test of it's reliability before I had my wife start driving it and boy am I glad that didn't happen to her!
Any of the fatwhiteboys have an axle laying around?

Sheeyit man! You don't want hooty's fubared crap. Jerry glued them sumbitches together with chawd nicorrette and elmers.:hand:

Nice! I dun always wanted me a pare like that!
On the bright side a guy emailed me about an axle and is gonna send it tomorrow :yesnod: so maybe I'll be able to get this thing going this weekend after all.
Okeydoke, I'll keep you guys posted!

For the third time in as many weeks... She lives! After replacing the axle I was having problems with the throttle cable, so it's now replaced as well. I'm going to do all of the steering stuff next.
Thanks again guys. It's running great and I even took it up the steep hill! I need to get the gears lower and adjust the kickdown better... After that and the steering issues are solved it'll be time for the SOA and all of the body work! That's what I'm really stoked about!
I guess I'll keep posting progress on the rest of this build as I go... Thanks again guys!

I was wanting to update you all on the status of the build. It's going well! I ordered up some tie rod ends and new spring bushings and got them installed tonight. What a difference in the ride!! I wanted to share how I removed the old bushings since I have heard of people torching, cuting, sawsalling, and driving them out with air hammers...
I used my large pulley puller and a 7/8" socket with my 3/8"x1/2" adapter inside of it to center my puller. I just pressed the bushings out and then popped my socket out with a hammer and driver.
Here's a picture if you aren't getting it.
It made this job take about 3 hours.
