Ron does have a 65 that's missing a motor. I be guesen that the barney rebel theme has a lot going for it. It would be enteresting to see that conversion. But would take away from the classic look of the over all theme :icon_eek:
 
Hmm this is true. So we run the pipes out the front grill and make them look like texas longhorn's and that way you roll coal out the front down the sides. Got a 392 also just laying around. Im telling ya. Drag Scout
 
Man I am so happy, Scout guys are just the best people. All the IH guys I've met are just as down to earth, as real, and have hearts as big as the ones in the American iron they drive. Right now I'm particularly indebted to Danny for this motor and scooter for being a mechanical genius. Who not only breathed life back into my girl, but was willing to have a pain in the ass, kid brother, tag-a-long helper involved just so I could learn how to get a little deeper into my Scout and become *fanfare* a Scout guy.

@runner, I'm starting to warm up to this whole 'drag Scout' concept. I don't know what a dt360, or a 7,2 is, but I do know what a 392 is. A rat rod Scout 800 hmmmmm I'm thinkin' it'd be a first. Almost makes it a mandatory build, dosen it? Now stacks I assume we're talking diesel. Have a few ideas.

The dt360 and 444e are internationals diesel babies the dt360 is a massive industrial straight 6. The 444e is the famous Ford 7.3 powerstroke. Still made by International. Ford never had a diesel worthy of their f250 and up trucks. So they contracted International to bring them a badass engine. It started out with the 6.9 v8 and evolved into the 7.3idi and then to the 7.3 direct inject. Then when Ford guessed wrong that the 7.3 wouldnt pass new 2002 emission regulations they asked for International's 6.0. The 6.0 had some breathing problems but shouldnt be taken lightly. In a Scout it would still put out 330hp and 500-600ft/lbs of torque. Anyway with things going bad between Ford and navistar the last real diesel Ford ever saw from International was the maxxforce7 branded in the Ford trucks as the 6.4 powerstroke. Yes 6.4l the same as the old skool 392v8 just 389ci now and just in diesel form now. Now maxxforce engines cost alot but they can be sold to anyone regardless of emission requirements. Navistar just has to pay a small fine of like 1300$ which is reflected in the price. Now that Ford is making its own crappy powerstroke the 6.7 with a world class leading 800ft/lbs of useless torque in an aluminum block instead of navistars cgi block the engine is seeing early wear and engine fatigue as well as the quick failure of injectors and exhaust gasses reaching unsafe temps. So any of the maxxforce engines would work in a Scout. Cause baby its gotta be International in my books or nothing. Navistar has never strayed far from its original cubic inch numbers. They make a maxxforce3.2 inline 4. Yes the same liters as the old 196 slant 4.

But all in all your best bet for plopping a good engine in there would be either a 7.3 from a Ford or International or a 6.0 from a Ford.

Yes I rant on fords stupidity to not continue on with proven industrial power but its because I would never sacrifice the miles I can put on a red block for a few more ponies.

I drove my f250 for many years and finally when I was done with it I super chipped it and roasted those tires into nothing. Now its still being used as a farm truck. Sleeves and rings were finally replaced at 525k
 
Off and running. Ron's little baby Scout is now rolling around on it's own power. Again, lot's of thanks goes out to Danny for the donation of this used 304 motor. Above and beyond what I would have expected, with getting this project going. Major "thumbs up". Motor runs real smooth so far and no hick ups. Getting ready for the official test drive in a few, once we get the hood mounted. Ron is all happy, like a little kid in a candy store lol
 
It's alive!!!!! Scooter and I just took turns test driving her around the block. Omg this motor is fantastic. Smooth, quiet, and tons of power. My Scout has balls on balls now. Danny thank you so much. You will never know how much this means to Scout and I. It was a long anxious time but the way shes kickin' is so worth it all. Ofcourse thanks to scooter and his shop who put this all together and made this motor swap possible.

Lol lol lol I don't even know how to respond to that, I can't rhyme that well. I know what you mean 'bout time. I've been chomping at the bit for weeks now. Scooter has been the calming influence reining me in to take the time to do it right. The results are pure magic, she is running liked a raped ape!

I had a little talk with Scout after the swap was done, told her she should've just trusted me when I told her it would be ok from the gate. I think she understands now that she's in good hands and we've moved on to a new level of trust. We'll be able to venture out to more of our b.a.b.s. Outings now. Can't really blame her having been sold as a non running parts vehicle, "not a candidate for restoration." by the last two p.o.s.
 
Very happy that engine worked out. I finally got mine going again yesterday. It sure is nice having a place to work on our stuff. Congrats on a job well done. Danny

A little hiccup tonight took her out to dinner and had to be towed home. Leading suspect is the electric fuel pump, not motor. Thanks again Danny
 
Yea talken about a buzz kill, huh? Motor was running good till it ran out of gas. Once we put a gallon of go-go juice in, it would not wanna start. The electric fuel pump seemed to be the week link. Crap happens. We'll get'er done
 
Mechanical or nothing for me thank you. Oh well. It happens huh. Maybe u should just give her to me :yesnod: I'll make sure I put the biggest gaudiest Chevy engine I can find and big shiny chrome parts cause it'll make it go faster. See u can trust me with her
 
All the local parts stores had to special order the mechanical pumps and this electric one was the only one that they had on hand. Could not wait. I have other projects that will be rolling in soon. Plus I need to take time to be able to work on my own rig.
The new used motor that Danny droped off had a mechanical pump mounted on it, but the diaphram May have dried up and cracked just from sitting for a long period of time. Which is why we bypassed the mechanical pump and ran what ron had already been using, which ended up craping out last night. Who knew. Any number of possibilities could have been the culprit as to why the electric pump failed. But I'm leaning towards to much contamination from the tank/s that clogged the filters and what not. The new clear plastic fuel filter at the carb, that ron installed from his old motor looked like it had been on there for 30 plus years eeeek.

That's my story and I'm sticken to it.

New electric fuel pump and two new filters are now installed and we are back in bizness.
 
See just tell ron to fork her over and I'll sell him a prius and we'll drop a 392 in the prius.....holy crap. That May be my most brilliant idea ever. Ricer body. 350ft/lbs of torque. :idea: well maybe not. But I'll still take that little Scout off ur hands. I'd be happy to get it out of your shop for you
 
So new fuel pump installed, fine tuned the carb and a slight clutch adjustment and she is running like a $10 hooker on $100 night.

Now runner don't be trying to snake my baby girl away. We can talk about the 65, but not my girl. Unless you wanna trade for the terra. No there's a thought. How 'bout it? The girl for bud's terra? Straight across.

So Scout brought me home safe n sound. I was mad at her last night, but she explained it was me who bought her an after market pump... We're back on good terms.
