T407/TF 727 Band Adjustment

Hey scoutboy,
I did mean the t-case shifter. I can grab that and reduce the noise/clank just a bit, when at a stop with the transmission in gear. Another clue to the mystery is that from a stop, the first few seconds of motion sounds like a bad cv joint when the steering is hard over, then it clears up. I half imagine thats bolt threads riding up and down in the mount or like you said, the cross member being loose. I'm pulling both shafts and diff covers to inspect them (I don't know the ratio and there are no tags on either) so I'll be under the truck for a bit. I'll add the transmission mount to the check list

Re: T407/TF 727 Band Adjustment.

no noise during neutral coast rules out stuff at the corners (bearings, wheels, big tires, dragging/faulty brake components) as those items are either rotating or almost in contact with rotating items while the rig is coasting or powered. You've got some components not found in most scouts...your range box and your divorced t-case. I know you've had the case inspection cover off for a visual and didn't see anything amiss. What about the range box? I'm just curious as to why you're most suspicious of the transmission. From my outside looking in perch, I'd be casting my suspicion more towards your non-stock gear boxes and associated drive shafts. There's actual gears and teeth in those boxes. Yes, there are rotating parts inside the auto trans, but pressurized hydraulic fluid is doing most of the work.

Finally got the tcase / range box pulled. Range box looks great inside. I took it all apart and it looks like new.
Pulled the trans too, should not be a big deal to check it out. Better to look vs having a meltdown. Need to up load pics off my ph
