Slick Rock Run (Nov 14-15 or 21-22)

Who wants to run slick rock? Post up and we will finalize a date. The trail is rated between 5 & 6 for difficulty where the rubicon and fordyce are a 10. This should be a fun ride with wheeling on the mild side mostly. It is a short trail with a few nice obstacles. Trailhead is just past bear valley about 3 ½ hours from my house in hayward. Check these links for more info and a few pics.

Dont forget to post up so we can get a headcount and date!!!

I can't do either of those weekends.
But I could do a day run after thanksgiving either Friday 11/27 or Saturday 11/28.

We will be at my folks place in arnold & I'm sure I could sneak out.

If not, have fun...

Sheesh, that means I need to actual fix my junk from the fordyce trip. :icon_eh: I have a fair amount of work to do. I called psc and they sent me a new o-ring gasket and told me to use lock tight on the center adjusting rod to keep the fluid from getting past the threads as thats were the fluid is coming from. I cut my rear pass side brake line, and the replacement line from crown just arrived. Would be an easy fix, but I also smashed the hard line too, so a little fabb'in of a hard line is needed. I also rip a shock off and it did a bit of damage. The exhaust got mangled a bit, but hopefully that will be an easy fix. The bump stop and bump stop mount are toast, so a bit of fabb'in there. Then I just need to buy a replacement shock and weld the mounting tab back on. Both diff's are leaking and need some attention too.
So I have a full weekend worth of repairs to do.

I would love to go on this trip, so count me in.
Either date is good for me at this point.
Since it's November the chance of rain is 50/50 but that just adds to the adventure:gringrin:

is this a one day run or weekend event? I can see adding a another trail to make a weekend out of it.

I see this as a weekend trip not a day trip... Too far to drive for one day.

Also, depending on the group and at which speed we get there and run the trail will really determine if we have time for one of the other trails up that way. Assuming everyone is up for it and time permits it could be a possibility.

Weather May be another concern.

Sounds like fun, I'm in for the 14th and 15th, 21st-22nd are out since I've got family coming in. I really need to get out soon, working on buying a new house that needs a lot of work so wheeling time will be reduced.

I'm with sean, if this turns into a weekend thing strawberry and slick rock would be cool. Rain or snow is still a go :winky:

r290 that's a lot of crap to do over a weekend. Psc didn't just send you a new box wtf!

Im leaning toward the 14th-15th but im free both weekends. The trail can be done in a few hours, if every thing goes according to plan. So we should have time to hit up slick rock then cruise on over to strawberry. There are some great places to camp along the way.

Especially since I have to work today:sosp:

I sent the box back right after I got it in 07 and they took care of the issue. ( supplier made some bad tops ) but last year on fordyce it started leaking again ( long story) I took it apart and put it back together and it's been fine for a year. But fordyce likes to break stuff, so it started leaking again this year same spot. After talking with psc, they said I also needed to use lock tight on the threads that go through the top cap. So I had them send me a new o-ring and I will pull the top and add the new o-ring and lock tight. I might have just pop an o-ring and this will fix it. They're actual a very good company to deal with, they answer there phones, know their chit and don't make any excuses. If this does not fix it then he said mail it back to them.

First Jesse and now your buying a new house, what's up? Your neighbors call the California air resource board for your want'en disregard for public safety and air pollution. We all know you use a few cans of spray paint to make that Scout orange.

Stacy & I would like to do this run I have a commitment the 21'st but 14-15 look good we have some technicals to take care of bettar get busy.cheese at dinner you talked about coming up with some temporary rock sliders so those those with more stock rigs could make this run. Let me know im sure I can come up with material & maybe even a little fab work. Joe

Since I'm stuck at work. Here a couple pic's and ideas.

Quick and dirty sliders.

Materials. Main tube, about 10' of 3/16 wall tube or sch40 pipe that could be used as the sliders. 4 frame plates, 3/16" or 1/4" about 5-6" long and about 3 1/2 to 4" high that can be welded to the frame. Some material that will go from the frame plates to the main tube.

Jeff sells sliders if thats in the budget, but what makes his nice is they can be removed. He uses trailer 2.5" receiver tube thats welded to the frame plates and then uses some 2" sq tube to connect to the main slider. You could use an 8" I beam for the slider, but the clearance might not be the best:icon_eek:

I would love to come out, but I still have a number of things to fix on my Scout before I can even drive it down the street. Have an awesome time and be sure to post pics!

Wow, lots of good discussion. As it turns out the only available weekend for me is now the 14 - 15. I would like to make the run this weekend and start to get head count so we can firm up travel plans. So far it would appear as the following are in:
Matt (scouty), sean (silverscout), myself (Craig aka cheese), and Joe/stacy (orng blsm spcl)

who else is in?

Orngblsmspcl: as for rock sliders it does not sound like you will need them, but just in case I was going to bring some channel that could be easily attached to the existing rocker so if you had to come down on the rocker the channel would take the hit and distribute the impact along the whole rocker. I have seen this done and it is crude yet effective. I have some channel and can cut to length and put some holes for sheet metal screws to hold it on in a makeshift kind of way. This could be used for others who don’t have sliders as well (the thought here was we might get a few other babs folks that don’t normally go or have not gone on this type of trail and could get them though without any damage).

Out for the 14-15.

Since its a family thing I doubt anything will change. Bummer for sure.
