Slick Rock Run (Nov 14-15 or 21-22)

I ran slick rock this weekend, it was a blast. I needed my sliders a couple of times. My Scout is sprung over with 33's. Most of the trail is pretty mild except for the end. Nothing too bad though.

Yea, I'm in for the 14th. I'm going to start preparing for this asap. I need to get my chit done. Extra lift up front through shackles, get the alignemt done and do all the pm for the past two years. Yea, its been a while. But were going. Hell yea!

I'm out all together. 14th or 15th didn't fit with my schedule and just got informed today that I will be working the 21 & 22.

Have fun - take pictures!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So from what I can tell the head count is the same at 4 scouts and one just enough engine power (which I would call a just empty every pocket, but that was already done on the Scout).:icon_mrgreen:

big bummer some of you other folks cannot make it… seems you can never have a date that works for everyone. I know a few of you have invaluable trail knowledge and skills which I hope we won’t be missing :icon_eek:

sean, yes I will have my spare front driveshaft with me. If I don’t get u-joints in the one that is in the cheese now we will be fighting over my spare

orngblsmspcl or anyone else who is coming, but not yet posted up, if you need me to bring the channel for rock slider let me know as I plan to cut to size and drill this weekend only if needed!

I would love to hear everyone’s thoughts on driving up? Should we head out Friday night or early Saturday morning? What time would everyone like to meet at the trailhead?

Cheers,
Craig

Craig, I'm down for meeting up on Friday. In fact, I'm down for taking Friday off and throwing in more trail time. I know this May not work for every one.

I'll be sure to bring extra u-joints for our drive shaft as well.

In the past, I've made slick rock, deer valley and strawberry on one three day weekend (in that order). For a two day trip, we could hit up slick rock, off highway 4, sat. Morning then camp at the top of strawberry pass that night (great view). Slick rock is a 3-4 hour trail, with an hour or so between trails on the high way. Sunday morning we'll be on highway 50 and on our way home.

Trying to work out something to make this trip. Will know more in a few days. Keep the fingers crossed. Got the brake line replaced and the power steering box fixes. Need to buy a shock still.

Come on Craig you've got to make it. Tell your wife how bad I'm going to be since it's my daughters 8th birthday that weekend. Don't tell her the part though that there will be 6 little girls having a slumber party at the house that don't want my ass here anyways. Make it happen!

As for meeting up, I will meet you guys in angels camp. It's a straighter shot going 16 to 49 to 4 from sac than going down to stockton to catch 4. Not sure where to meet in angels camp, just pm me your cell numbers and we can wing that part.

Hitting slick rock then camping on strawberry sounds good to me. Not working Friday thanks to the governor so I can leave then if anybody is going early.

Sean did you call me Jesse? If you were refering to my wheel bearing, yes I have a complete new set in the axle and one set in the spare parts box plus the right tools to replace them with :dita:

Friday will be tough to get away at a decent hour , but I prefer to get the highway time out of trail time ,so I will work something out . Any ideas on a departure time for Friday ?
Craig I was thinking about helping you come up with some kind of temporary rock slider we could bring along on runs to encourage some of the more stock guys to come along. I can (with time ) get any special size of chanel the might be required & we could come up with some sort of clamping set up.:sosp:
also what about your Bronco budy it would be nice to have a other non I.h...er along so I wont feel so intimidated!!!!

Just past 4 on 49 there is a burger king, taco bell, & grocery store that all share the same parking lot. That would be a good place for you guys to meet.

Joe, let me know what time you guys want to hit the road Friday and I will coordinate that into my schedule. If you can, post up here as sean May want to caravan with us.

As for sliders, do you need temporary ones for this trip? If so call me so we can work to make something this weekend. If not we can look into a better temporary permanent type solution

I did mention it to my bud with the Bronco, but I don't think he can fit it into his schedule. Besides, you have seen my rig... No reason to be intimidated:yikes:

:icon_eh: got material for stacys sliders today (Friday) & pete (235frog) brought him by a newly rebuilt q-jet ,steering stabilizer,& extra t-case shifter (for twin stick). Thanks pete11111:smile5: :smile5: :smile5: so the plan is sliders, rebuild front bumper,& set up carb sat. Then do a little tweaking on the j--- on sun. Wish us luck.
There is a slight chance I can take Friday off,if so stacy is out of school at 1 we could be on the road by 2. If I cant get off work I probably couldn't leave till 5.
Sounds like sean knows the place best so he can leed ? :sosp: what about food , should we pack for meals for 3 days or will there be places to eat close? & just pack snacks?
Jason are the gods smiling on you ? Cant wait to see that truck in the dirt!! sure hope you make it Craig a weekend wheeling is worth a littel domestic disharmony isent it ?:(

The trail is verry easy to negotiate, im not too worried about getting around. But I will pm you guys my cell number. It would be cool if we could meet before the trail head but I'd like to leave closer to mid day, to beat the traffic.

I plan on doing my shopping at home. Though I'm sure theres a place on the way to get your food.

I started doing a years worth of maitenence this weekend. Wow, amazing how all the fluids tend to disapear. Also got the new winch up and running. Still have to go through all the camping stuff. I'll be sure to get the fridge packed as I have a few steel reserves left over from our rubicon trip.

Ok looks like I'm a go. but I won't be going wheeling over the t-day holiday weekend thats for sure!

I started working on the Scout this weekend. Pulled the top off the power steering box and replaced the seal. Filled with fluid and it looks ok, no road test just yet.
Made a new brake hard line and installed the new hose, just need to bleed the brakes.
The shock mount was b.I.t.c.h. The issue was trying to get the old broken stuff off as it was very hard to reach. Got everything cut off and cleaned up and ready to remount. The Ford f350 rear shocks I run are 18" long compressed and I just need a bit more compression room so the same thing don't happened again. ( my bump stop got crushed and the shock bottom out and tore loose ) I will relocate the shock mount from the top of the tube down to the side of the axle tube to give me a couple more inches of up travel room. As a side note the rear shocks of a Ford f350 1999-2004 are 18" compressed and 31" extended:winky: plus can be found everywhere.

Cheese, whats the plan for Friday? Meet up somewhere?
Hwy 49 is about 50 miles from the trail head. There are gas stations farther up in arnold and dorrington.
If all else fails were are we planning to sleep Friday night?
