Hello all!
Long time International family here. My father learned to drive on an old '46 IH pickup and I learned to drive on my fathers '75 IH pickup. My grandfather even used to sell part of the IH line in the 50's.
My wife and I picked up an old '68 Travelall in really rough shape a few years back, but sadly it's become a storage shed due to all the body work, etc. Needed to get it going.
however, we just came upon a deal from a friend that was too good to pass up on a '72 Travelall which included a '73 parts Travelall.
While searching the internet for info, we came across this site with Jeff's 1970 1-ton 4x4 Travelall build thread. We we're incredibly excited to see the thread, as it shows all the upgrades we plan to do!
The '72 was parked about 13 years ago, but was running when it was parked. Next weekend we have a pressure washer rented to get the pack rats nests, etc. Out of it, and then we can see how good/bad everything is. Currently, we're a bit afraid to sit in it!
We're going to get our 392 rebuilt, add Dana 60 axles, a nv4500 tranny, lift it, add an aluminum radiator and super swampers, plus many other things that I'm sure will come up as we go along.
My wife's going to take care of all the interior issues (floor, carpet, door panels, etc.) as well as give the truck a new paint job. I'll take care of all the mechanical issues. Once done, it should be our go anywhere rig. We can't wait to get it going! I'm sure we'll be on here often with questions, etc.
this winter we're going to try and sell off some old stuff (including some parts from all three of our Travelall's that we won't need) to bring funds in for the project and start ordering parts in hopes for starting the project in earnest this coming spring.
