New Members please check in here

Hello all! Have been reading the posts here for a couple months since I bout my '73 Scout II. I hope to learn lots from everybody here. I had a Bronco that I bought last year and the guys at the full size Bronco forum really got me out of some jams. (btw, if anybody wants a Bronco, I know where to get one, haha)

right now our Scout is just in the beginning stages of an engine swap. It has the 304 in it, and I heard some knocking in the engine when we bought it. I read up on about the possible causes here in the forum. Pulled #5 spark plug per the advice of some of the guys here and the knocking stopped. Yanked the oil pan and the con rod is all kinds of sloppy. Don't know if it's piston slap or what, but we want to beef it up anyway so we figured we'd just pull it. So, we've been going through the teardown procedure in the shop manual and are ready to pull the engine once we get a picker and stand. Thinking about a Chevy 350, seems to be a popular choice across several forums.

Can't wait to start a build thread, I guess we should get on it before we start changing too much and miss the change to start at the beginning!

New member here,

just picked up an all most all original 1967 1200b step-side 4x4 pickup with 4.88 gears, Dana 44 in front, and Dana 60 w/ power-lok in the rear, np202 transfer case and a 266ci v8 engine with owner stated 67k miles... But might be 167k... Or 267k?
Original split rims, drum brakes, good tires and a good bit of rust. Runs good now that I resealed the gas tank and ran some new gas lines and filters. Plan on getting the original mechanical fuel pump back in service after I find a proper rebuild kit and new filters. Need to find a new windshield, fix a leaking radiator, recondition the steering wheel and sort out a few small electrical gremlins and I'm on my way!

Top speed is around 60 mph and will climb just about anything! Plan on making it a solid weekend work truck for home depot runs and the various trips to the dump and the like.
Really liking the old corn-binder way of life! As honest as a truck can be... It is what it is, and does what it does!

Thanks for the help,
boyd

Howdy
new to IH. I have found a 1965 d 900 and think I will buy it this weekend. Body is in great shape, interior is good has not been run since the early 90 but was stored in a garage. Maybe I will get lucky and plugs, battery and fresh fuel and she might turn over....my question is how difficult is it to find parts? And is 4000k too much? I really dont know much about IH

thanks
Mike

Make sure you find and read the post about resurrecting an IH that has not run for years. Basically the oil system needs to be primed and per-lubbed to prevent eating the cam bearings. Welcome aboard, the 900 series were the "economy" trucks and you don't see many of them.

New to forum. Picking up 76 traveler mostly stock with 345 v8 4x4 w/4 speed manual. Will post it as soon as I take delivery. Will be making upgrades. This is my 3rd Scout. Love them!! Nothing else compares. Thanks

My name is greg and I live west of phoenix, az. I bought my first IH, Saturday (March 28) from a friend. It is a 65 Scout 80. I haven't even looked at it in 10 years, but couldn't pass it up. I don't even pick it up until April 15, but I am an information junkie so I have been trolling. This unit is a builder, so I am trying to make some sight un-seen decisions (bad, I know) :out: such as do I rebuild the 152, or yank and replace with something modern. I will be posting picts and asking lots of questions in the coming months/years. I look forward to chatting with you.

Welcome to the addiction.

Greg - it really all depends on what your overall goal is with your newly soon to be acquired Scout. A daily driver, for show, or mild to wild trail rig? Some have luck with wheeling the 4 poppers whether it be the 152 or 196 along with other mods. Some went as far as swapping in a v8(of some sort) conversion. So, it's really based on what you desire and how deep your pockets are. Cause it won't be cheap
