I have loved scouts for 15+ years but never had one until last week when my wife found one on craigslist for a song. It is a 1964 Scout 80. It was used my the us army at one point. It has had some modifications over the years for hunting. I plan to clean it up, and continue using it for outdoors activities.
 
Welcome three on the tree! Your Scout sounds cool. What kind of mods did the army make when they had it? So you have any history? I look forward to some pictures as I have a 64 also and like to compare.

Ollie is a very hard worker. He hopes to go to wyotech some day to learn how to restore cars. He is definitly a pipefitters son. Very mechanical.
 
Welcome. Nice to see a father son gathering around these parts. :dita: my Dad knows nothing about wrenching on cars when it comes to we all are doing to our scouts.
 
Just checking in. Found the site via google. Just bought a one owner 66 p/u 3/4 ton 4x4, manual, v-8. Lots to read here, looking for a way to get the line set ticket or decode the vin to find out what I have. Truck is in great shape but does need some tlc. :icon_up:

Hey buddy welcome. Wisconsin historical society I think carries the line setting ticket. These guys on here are the best fabricators and IH sv8 mechanics I know of. Good luck
 
I believe Jeff now carries LST's through the online store. Just click the store button at the top of the page. If you don't find it on the web site, just give them a call during business hours.

By all means check out the historical site though as they have a ton of IH and Scout info and are very friendly (see my post IH dealerships for more info if you like).

Also check out this post for LST info: line set tickets??. I thought that would create a hyperlink, but I guess not. The thread is located under basic tech about three pages in.

What's up folks! Found this place online as I was looking for parts... Had a 74' Scout II 10 years ago, let it go and regretted it ever since! Now I just found a 72' that I'm planning to restore no matter what!

Btw does anyone have a rear bench for sale?

I do have a nice black rear seat I'll let go for $50. Seat belts aren't great, but the vinyl is nice.

Hey people. Im new here just wanted to say hello. Im out wheeling I. Northern illinois I've had my Scout 80 for about 2 years I come to find I could use some help .

My rig so far

1962 Scout 80 152. Re did the ignition msd threw some nice tires on there great tires 5 ply road venture mt

I have so many ideas for this truck I really want it to be a daily but its still a bit underpowered and should be lifted looking for 5 inch gauges for tac and speedo and looking for info on lifts for a soft ride.....for a Scout that is. Something thats durable. The list gose on and on though.

Hope to gain a lot from everyone cuz nobody out here even really remembers the old Scout.

-when all else fails. Your going to have to rough it

Welcome aboard! That sure is a nice rig especially for the rust belt. Good to see more baby scouts on the site. You can start thread's in the areas you have questions. There are a lot of very smart and friendly people here. I say it like that because this is the nicest and friendliest forum I have seen.

A 196 and some gears would go a long way to help with the power issues. You will find some good threads on the subject here. Be sure to check out all of the readers rides too, as they are a great source of ideas and inspiration.

I look forward to seeing you start your own builders ride page so we can all chime in and help.

Thanks. I had thought about the 196 option my dream would be a cummins 3.9 nv4500 w od. Wish I had a better job lol.


Lol rust belt is right I try to keep it off the road after they start saltin bad
 
Not cool dude! Just kidding. If your going to put a diesel in a Scout it has to be an International! Well, some would disagree. If you start a build thread or something in chit-chat we can talk about it there, I don't want to jack this thread, then again this thread is in chit-chat...

Welcome aboard. I bought one of the kits and had it upholstered. With what you save in bulk shipping and having it reupholstered any way to mach/cover mouse homes you end up saving money in the long run. Check with IHPA for a kit or post an add in the classified threads here for free. Good luck!
 
The Scout 80 engine bay is very limited on size when it comes to engine swaps, especially from the radiator support to firewall. This would be especially problematic with any I-6 as they are considerably longer block from front to rear than the I-4 you have in it now. V8 engines have been successfully swapped into the s80 engine bay, but only after much fab work and tin trimming. The later 800 models did offer 266/304 v8 engines and an amc I-6 as power plant options, but the engine bay and radiator support layout was considerably altered by IH as compared with the I-4 versions, in order to accommodate the larger engines when those options were selected. The I-4 engines in both the 80 and 800 models are clocked towards the passenger fender to help with firewall clearance and special narrow or "pancake" bellhousings are utilized to help with the tight clearance in the trans tunnel/doghouse area.
