Re: Ur right keep it hi

is all good guys I do feel it should stay IH dose the six cylender bolt up to the 80s trans

Not sure what six cylinder you speak of? Are you referring to the 196? The 196 is a larger 4 cylinder based off of a larger v8, just like the 152 is half of a 304.

Yeah I like 196 alot im thinkin over all btween price and power to do the swap. And it would wake up in tracfic a bit with gearing I agree.... Has anyone seen. Turbo set up for the 196

Check out Isa's thread on crate motors for info in the 196. I don't know about turbos. Not my scene baby.

196 swaps into s80's happen all the time. The 196 has a larger bore and a longer stroke, so the block is a bit taller than the 152. Makes for a tight squeeze, but very doable. You want to make sure your donor engine is a clocked version meant for an 800 application. The later Scout II version blocks are upright, which May be the configuration of Isa's crate motors. You'd have to check that with him.

I am also interested in doing this to mu Scout also im glad to see al the info here.

Just want more power for the hiway ........dreams of turbo 196

Thanks for the info, when I bought the Scout it had a Jeep bench in the back! It works but I just wanted to keep it all Scout. I already have a bench I'm gonna possibly look at this week. I hope to start posting my progress soon as I get enough pics!

Hey all, friends call me doc, 38 years old, 3 kids, live in mississippi and work for one of the major telecoms. Been looking for a truck/suv to replace my crew cab that I traded in to get my wife a new car which led to me discovering your site here. I'm going to look at a 1974 Scout 2 tomorrow and had a question or two before I make the purchase. If all goes as I desire, I'll proudly join the ranks of IH Scout owners soon!

Cheers!
Doc

Hello all!

I am excited to be finally joining the IH community. Been a 20 year process and I am jumping in with a pretty clean and straight 1976 IH traveler 4x4 304 3sp 727 running 33's and a 3.07. Original interior and not to many must do's.

My main rust issuer is the common spot on the rocker just in front of the rr wheel. Will adress that later.

First I just want to find some reliable wrenches in the greater seattle / pueget sound area. From what I can tell the binders up here in washington is a fizzled out. Maybe we can start to change that.

Initial projects

brake tune ( soft brake pedal )
starter replacement
install a second battery on a switch for self jumping.
Lf bearings might need a repack

later
3.07 to 3.73 or 4.10
fuel injection
add rear disc brakes
and I am sure others will come up.

Thanks for any all forthcoming advice and help.
Sam

There are quite a few of us soggy wet side of the mountain 'bindernuts hanging around.

Ragtopkid is over in the bremerton/kingston area.

Billusn-1 is on whidbey island.

Mr. IH who has a really neat Scout campermobile lives in the mt. Vernon area.

I am a mile from I-5 exit #68 in winlock (actually closer to napavine).

Drop me a line if you have any questions or need some help.

Hey folks,
found this forum through google.

I've got a 1968 1200c 4x4 automatic transmission
304 engine. Body pretty good, a little rust, worst being up under the glove box.
Needs some work, engine is blowing oil out of the dipstick tube.
Starts and runs good.
Happy to have found y'all!
Whitaker

Hi josh, welcome. I have a 345. You're gonna love it. Your wallet won't when you hit the pump, but it is so worth it. :)

Scott here from paradise valley alberta. I just brought a 1980 Scout. It has a 345 engine, 727 trans, 300 t-case, 44's with 3.31 in them. It is a 100% wreck, rust is bad! Plus ever plan is dented. My plan is to remove the body & install a 1950 l-110 IH body on to it. I know, wrecking a Scout. But its was going to the junk pile, so this will keep it alive. Been an ihc fan for awhile, g/f has had ihc products since he got back from ww2. We still have a truck & tractor that he got in 52,53. Here is a pic of the Scout.

Welcome newbie! That's a real testimony to the IH build. 10+ yrs and that easily started. Let us know what all u end up doing with it. It keeps us motivated :)

Welcome wagonwheel.

I am pretty partial to the round body t-alls.

From the pictures it appears as if the important and hard to find stuff is still all there.

Be very careful of the rear side glass--good rear side glass is getting pretty hard to find=$$$.

Good luck.
