Hello all Mark from conn. Here. Just bought a 79 Scout II 345 auto with 73,000 orig miles. Found my way here by way of just internationals (drew m. Told me). I've just tinkered with it so far. I purchased the service manual last night and when it gets here the real fun will start. I am no mechanic by any stretch so I'll be reading and asking a ton so please be patient. Thanks in advance.

Welcome Mark, you will never have another dull moment now that you have your Scout II. Meaning that with some tlc and heavy maintenance do the 30 year old rig it will a blast. And here at this site there are plenty oh IH wizards with knowledge here to offer and give help when needed..;)

Thanks for the warm welcome cornbinder and Scout boy I really look forward to spending time here. I was really shocked at how friendly and helpful everyone was over in just internationals, I just hope that it's like that here and from what I can tell so far it is. One thing I an tell already is that a lot more people over here have Scout II's whereas over in ji most guys had 80's or 800's. I really did get lucky with mine. I saw it on craigslist in the mechanicburg pa area. I saw to many slip through my fingers so I called up after looking at just one picture and told the po I would be there in the morning with cash in hand. He said it was his daily driver so I rented a car here, drove it out and drove the Scout home. She made the 258 mi trip with no problems (except for the power steering being a little squirlley when I went over 60mph). I May have stopped for gas to aften but the gas gauge is reading true so I didn't want to take any chances. The motor is strong but as soon as I start digging I'm sure I'll find bondo a plently.actually if you look closer at the drivers side pic you can see the rocker panel kinda "flares" out towards the back and the passenger side doesn't lol..sorry for the long winded reply, talk to you soon

That modified rocker is a good thing, give it some draft so the crap yawl have on yore winter roads drains better! I gotta bro-in-law around enfield and have spent alotta time around there and fully understand yore climatic conditions. And my wife is from the cape and grew up around enfield also, so I kinda understand yore language!

Actually, once you have spent some time cruising all the sub-forums you will find that our members have a very diverse selection of all IH products, some that go back to the very beginning of motorized vehicles.

Finding a local rig that is not swiss-cheesed is highly unusual!! We have contacts from folks real often asking us to locate 'em some decent rigs from west of the divide that are salvageable to move back east.
 
Yeah Mike no doubt. The stuff they put on the roads out here is criminal. It's not uncommom to see cars and trucks that are only 10 years old with rust eating through the wheel wells. I consider myself extremely lucky to have found one that "appears" to be in such good shape. I have some pics of some trouble spots I've seen already. I should be posting them tomorrow. I am working at the firehouse tomorrow so if it's quiet and we don't have many calls I will be all over the forums tomorrow. I have a bunch of questions about installing seats from a different make/model vehicle, installing an aftermarket edelbrock carb I had rebuilt, power steering/linkage issues etc etc. I just wish the darn weather would break so I can be outside for more than 10 minutes. Also I'm waiting for my service manual to come in the mail. Once I get that I'll get moving.

Like my Scout, I can take more than what most can dish out. :cornut:

Josh shoemaker from martinez, georgia (augusta). New to the scouts all together. I have always like them from when I was a kid. Now that I have gotten the marriage behind me (10 yrs in 09) and a financially stable life I am pursuing the scouts. I have a 61 Scout 80 that I am planning to restore to a dependable daily driver.

About a month or so ago I decided that the Scout that I purchased 2 years ago was time to start working on it. So the first thing I began with was the carb. Found out that it was a 1904 Holley. Typed 1904 Holley into google and came up with this site. From there I found out that the carb I have is not an IH version and someone had been in it changed/destroyed some of the internal parts. Found out what I needed from there.

Then I purchased a line set ticket and found what it came from the factory with and have learned a thing or two about it but still have a bunch more to learn. Glad this site is here, I don't feel like a price can be put on the amount of information or experience that is on here. Thanks
 
Hi names Mike, I got a 1974 IH 100. Its got in it a 392 that only has about 50,000 origonal miles on it. I picked up this truck as my frist vechicle and I have been doing the best I can to work on the thing, I cant help but like the truck, the engeine and trans are in reall good shape, but because the tuck sat so long out side in Colorado weather it needs some work. I just got done replaceing the front weel barrings and now I pulled the gas tanks out and got them cleaned out, I'm just waiting for the sending units to get here and I should have it back on the road. I have been having some carb trouble lately, it always seems to be running Rich lol. But I figured this site might help with any questions relating to IH and I have plenty to ask.
 
Well the journey begins now. I have wanted to teach my boys about cars/trucks and watch powerblock on tv. We have watched the series on the 69 Scout. Then on new years day coming back from hunting my alternator went out and I went over to a friends shop to repair it. There was a 69 Scout, needing a yoke replaced.

Now after some haggleing we just purchased the Scout, and have 3.5 years before the first turns 16. Our project begins.

I've been here a while I just never checked in. My Dad has had his Scout my whole life. I remember going four wheeling with him when I was little. During the week my Mom would take us grocery shoping in the Scout. I few years ago my Dad found a 1979 Scout for sale. Long story short I bought it!

I found this site from the binder planet forum. I have been to the IH Parts America store a couple times and have always been very happy with the parts and service!

Hi all, I'm Matt and live in roseville, CA. Been lurking around on this site for a couple of years, but just signed up. I have a 1962 Scout 80 4x4 with the 152 4cly. That is in need of some tlc. So, I will probably end up asking a few questions, but a lot of them have already been answered. This site is a wealth of knowledge! I will be dropping my Scout off at the iho north shop soon and am anxious to see what I am going to be dealing with.

Hello everyone, my name is rob crabtree and I'm located in hayward, CA. I just bought my Scout about a month ago. It's a 1964 Scout 80 with stock drivetrain (152,t90,d18,d27's) I just noticed this thread so I thought I'd stop by and say hello :)
 
My name is chris and I bought my first International vehicle about two months ago. My recent purchase of a 77 traveler sent me looking for parts which brought me to this site. This is an awsome web site for all IH owners and will come very useful. :icon_rotate:
 
Howdy all....been awhile since had the net to chat...got me 3 Scout ll and a 80...going broke saveing them from the crusher at the local junk yard who belives a Scout is worth more scraped.. What a &*&%$#@$%.. I have a shop and a nice sized yard to store a few more scouts up here in mendocino county..
 
Hey everyone,

new member here. I found the site from googling Scout parts, as in the last year I have picked up my 3rd and 4th scouts and am looking to build one of them up like one of my old one. I had 2 scouts a couple years ago when I was in college (a 1978 rallye with a 345, 727, SOA, and 35's and a 1973 Scout II with a straight 6, stock wheels, and a sweet hardtop). I sold them both back in 2006 and got away from 4x4's for a while, college and buying a house got in the way.

Currently I have a 1975 Scout II (304 and a 727, runs but I bought it for parts, might fix it up once I get my other one's body all fixed up) and a 1974 Scout II (304, 727, 4" lift I think, 32's, runs good and am going to use it as a hunting/fishing/hauling/light wheeling rig). I drive a car daily, so I will be able to work on the Scout anytime and can have it on jackstands if need be!

Just wanted to say hello and that the site is awesome. Look forward to posting and learning lots of information.

Oh and I live in wichita, ks

new member here. Hunting for Scout tech info and found this site about 6 months ago. Read many many threads so far. Learned an assload. Kids are out of the house and I have a lot of time and a bit of money so I'm putting a 76 Scout II back together. Hell of a lot of fun. A lot less frustrating after reading info here.
 
Joe blo from kokomo checkin in- found the forum through google for the 1904 carb-& been readin ever since. Best source on the net as far as I can see!
After sellin my '74 Scout II about 10 years ago I just bought a relatively stock '64 thats been sittin for a hell of a long time but theres not a-lot of cancer on it & 95% of the pieces are still there!!
Anyhow after droppin some coin & bustin some knuckles she still doesnt start. I've got a manual commin in the mail & a couple more avenues to explore but rest assured you'll be seeing more of me!!

My name is Todd and I've been buying stuff from Jeff for years. I just moved to tacoma, wa from chico, CA few weeks ago. Is anyone here from washington that wants to go wheelin'? I want to go wheelin' real bad but don't know anyone or where to go! I've been running the rubicon, fordyce, high lakes, and other trails for almost 10 years now. My Scout is built for rockcrawling, but down for whatever's available! The only trail I've heard of is the naches, but from what I've seen it looks like a logging road with a few mild sections. Is there any hard core wheelin around?
 
Nice - lived in tacoma when I was a kid & chico for like 13 years - got no info on the wa wheelin but props on the regional choices!!
