34 Hot Rod Pickup

Here's a picture of the spacer richy made for me. It fits like a glove. As soon as the right stuff dries I'll be able to install the valve covers.

With all the work done for those valve cover spacers, that just makes all the more worthwhile

I putzed around with cnc machines very briefly. Never had the chance to actually get more into it. I had more hands on with the ole bridgeport manual machines and non-cnc lathes
 
Robert, it has been over a month with no update for those of us living vicariously through your build. Or have you been too busy with other projects? Please update us so at least I can feel guilty (again) for not working on mine.

Ken I sent the cab out to have the wood rebuilt in the doors and I have been pushing forward on a couple other projects. I hope to be complete with them soon so I can jump back on the truck. Here's a look at the 66 800 with a fold down windshield I am building for someone else.

Then I need to rewire the doors in this one, my wife's ls1 powered Scout. I have power windows from ihin and the wire are just wadded up when the doors close. I bought contact switchs the will power the windows and doors locks up without the wires in the jamb.

And after that I need to swap out the engine and transmission in this one. Back story it was sold as a 1976 diesel tera repoed in 77 and sat in a warehouse until the dealer brought it to me. I have already replaced the interior, but he hates the nonturbo diesel so it is getting a rebuilt 345 and 727 as soon as I get there. I have the motor and everything ready just need shop time.

I am working on this when I am between jobs, it is a Scout flavored go cart my wife fell in love with (she is five foot tall on a good day) there is a build on the bp for it. I am thinking with all the projects I have going I May have to take on some help,,,,,,we will see.

Ken I wasn't givin you crap, I just get myself in a lot of projects at once, I have never meet a harvester I don't fall for. I am guessing be cause of my crazy life the hotrod will be out by fall. I did how ever get the cab back tonight and the wood work looks crazy good. Here's a look for you fellows, you will see the great lines and the cool wat the exhaust flows under the doors.

Here's a shot from the rear you can see we chopped three inches from the front and two from the rear to give the top a nice look. You can also see we reshaped the rear window because it came to points where the chop happened, so we rounded the sides again. I also had a chat with the fellow that did the wood in my doors, we are going to floor the bed with black walnut, that should be very sweet, I sent the wood to a saw mill today to be cut into boards to get it ready for the flooring.

The war-nut will be beautiful!!!! As a woodworker/cabinet maker, I'd like to suggest using sikkens cetol marine varnish as your top coat. It's a great product!! I've made several exterior mahogany doors and always use it on them. Cetol lasts much longer than any other product I've tried. Also, wondering how you'll dry the war-nut if it's still a log??? Air drying will work but take awhile. If that's the case, make sure you seal the end grain with a thick coat of latex paint to help prevent checking.
 
Well it has been a minute or two sense I have updated this build, time really slips away. It is winter here in montana so projects are back in the shop. I loaded the truck today for some fitting and clean up work over at westfab, they are the go to guys for fabrication and metal work. The goal is still to have this truck ready for summer so now it is near the top of my list again.

Here's the shot loading it with all the big parts on.

I think the bed looks great, it to me has the right proportions for this hotrod. Here is a shot from the other direction.

There is a ton of work done and a bit more to be done, I prefer to have it complete before driving the crap out of it. I just can't see doing it half way, that's why it has a harvester power plant instead of a sbc. Thanks for the comps.
 
I spoke with Mark clawson today "clawson interments" he is restoring and converting the 34 gauges to 12vdc. I am looking forward to getting them back. He is a nice guy and the cost is much less than most on the net. Deal is I wanted the factory gauges, keeping the triple diamond logos that are on the faces, and also so it did not look like I redid the dash with a credit card.

Looks like the guages are about three weeks out.

The truck looks great, but I want to know about the (tool box?) in the background with the 800 clip on it!

It's a close up of "a bad ass IH power plant". In the back ground is the front half of a red 800 clip on top of a black box.

I was wondering if it was the top of a costume tool box or a piece of future wall art. From the angle of the picture it doesn't appear to be a whole clip. The fenders look cut down.

Awesome engine man. Very clean looks. Im an IH purist under the hood so its nice to see a rod that doesnt have a chubber or furd block in it. Great great work. Cant wait to see the finished result

It is a Scout bar, the hood raises from the rear like a real Scout. I also have a rear section cut down for a couch in my office. They are part of my harvester man cave. For the people that haven't seen it my bride has really stepped up my office with lots of very old classic International pictures, also old hit and miss motor. She even has moved my IH refrigerator in there.
