The on going evolution of my '69 800A

Next up for Scout was the new windshield, found at jm Jeep parts wrecking yard in antelope, CA. New rubber provided by IHPA/ihon

Next up is the upholstry, I took the broken down back seat to my old friend frostie. Told him what I wanted upholstry designe and color. Then I took the frame down and had it powder coated. Frostie rebuilt the seat and back using the half fiberglass, half sealed plywood that the build boats out of. More durable, and water proof. The back seat came out better than I had hoped for.

The front seats came out even better! This material is the thickest, heviest, and most durable available. Scout is comming along slowly, but the bad ass little girl she is destined to be is starting to take shape

Nice. Glad to see that it's getting some good tlc

now you won't have to hear me bitchen about low riding when sitting in your Scout. Lol

Not having a valid drivers license. I could not call in the police, I simply told the guy I was going to give him a break, a chance to not turn it in to his insurance, and to just get out of here. He left and so did I.

Seats are reupholstered, but passenger side is not bolted in, I'm still trying to figure out how to raise it up to be more even with drivers side while keeping the tilt function in tact.

Well they should by god. That Scout will now be seen all over them fancy online sites. Bookface. Myback. All those fancy sites. Its gonna be famous. It wont even be about the wedding it'll be "did you see they had that wedding near a Scout?." truly epic.

the dt360 and 444e are internationals diesel babies the dt360 is a massive industrial straight 6. The 444e is the famous Ford 7.3 powerstroke. Still made by International. Ford never had a diesel worthy of their f250 and up trucks. So they contracted International to bring them a badass engine. It started out with the 6.9 v8 and evolved into the 7.3idi and then to the 7.3 direct inject. Then when Ford guessed wrong that the 7.3 wouldnt pass new 2002 emission regulations they asked for International's 6.0. The 6.0 had some breathing problems but shouldnt be taken lightly. In a Scout it would still put out 330hp and 500-600ft/lbs of torque. Anyway with things going bad between Ford and navistar the last real diesel Ford ever saw from International was the maxxforce7 branded in the Ford trucks as the 6.4 powerstroke. Yes 6.4l the same as the old skool 392v8 just 389ci now and just in diesel form now. Now maxxforce engines cost alot but they can be sold to anyone regardless of emission requirements. Navistar just has to pay a small fine of like 1300$ which is reflected in the price. Now that Ford is making its own crappy powerstroke the 6.7 with a world class leading 800ft/lbs of useless torque in an aluminum block instead of navistars cgi block the engine is seeing early wear and engine fatigue as well as the quick failure of injectors and exhaust gasses reaching unsafe temps. So any of the maxxforce engines would work in a Scout. Cause baby its gotta be International in my books or nothing. Navistar has never strayed far from its original cubic inch numbers. They make a maxxforce3.2 inline 4. Yes the same liters as the old 196 slant 4.

But all in all your best bet for plopping a good engine in there would be either a 7.3 from a Ford or International or a 6.0 from a Ford.

Yes I rant on fords stupidity to not continue on with proven industrial power but its because I would never sacrifice the miles I can put on a red block for a few more ponies.

I drove my f250 for many years and finally when I was done with it I super chipped it and roasted those tires into nothing. Now its still being used as a farm truck. Sleeves and rings were finally replaced at 525k

Does anyone have any information on swapping a 7.3l navistar diesel into a Scout II? (specifically what parts and where to get them to connect engine to Scout II's 727 transmission.)

Thread jacker. Lol. Its not really polite to jack someone elses thread. The 6.9 idi and 7.3 idi both had the option of the borg warner t19. Theres a really brilliant dude floating around here who dropped a 6.9 into his Scout terra called thunder pumpkin. But id probably start your own thread about it. Youll get better results and its more polite

Yea - what he said

well, this little wedding crasher some how showed back up into my cave in the last week. Actually looks decent now that it's sporten a new stance. But man, talken about a serious case of spagetti wiring mixed in with some household cabling. Sorry ron, I'm messen with ya. I spent a good part of today gutting 90% of the old wiring out to get ready for the new 14 circuit kwik wire kit. We have been waiting for at least a month now to get this kit installed, along with a few other non-electrical fixes.

Well here's a moment of truth on my part. Routing all the new wires with all the purdy colors. Spent some time patching up some old holes from oem wire harness. And drilled one hole in firewall for the new wires. Joy joy - wiring.

If you don't have any plans for the old wiring harness, I'd be happy to take it off your hands. I'm just looking for the bulkhead connectors if they aren't broken.

Welcome to the forum. Good looken rig you have.
The 3 oem bulkhead connectors are still intact and seem to be ok. Currently, the old wire harness is sitting in a pile off in the corner. I don't have any use for them. And they won't be going back into this 69 work in progress. Since this aint my own rig, I will have a chat with ron about it. I'm sure we can work something out. Strange things May happen if he claims he wants them :winky:

since you're down in san jose, we can meet up some time. There is plenty of IH lovers down in your area. Some of them have been up this way for IH work days here in my man cave

so how is ron's wee beastie doing? This thing gonna be a road warrior or a weekend wheeler?

Both. Mostly daily driver tho. Mainly fixing and/or upgrading things as needed to be reliable. The ole oem wirng after 40 plus years is questionable at best, which is why the new wire harness install. I will be posting up some custom steering linkage, since there is nothing available off the shelf as direct replacement for the current linkage. Even Jeff, up at IHPA, suggested custom made linkage. New body mount and tranny mount bushings are in the works, along with straightening the tranny cross member. Combination of warped tranny crossmember and f%#%#$% bushings was a key factor killing the front driveshaft.

hey scooter,

thanks, that would be great.

Cheers,
rob

I haven't forgot about ya just yet. I haven't talked with ron in a few days. We both have been kinda busy. I will try and talk to him about it this weekend. If you have time for a road trip, I'm about an hour drive north of s.j. I will be spending the rest of the weekend trying to make more progress on this little beastie. Send me a pm if you actually decide to come up.
Cheers

Out with the old and in with the new. Only replacable piece that I know for this ole linkage is the pitman arm. Funny thing is that this old skimpy linkage survived a near miss human injury a few months ago to try and become a bow when the floor jack decided to wedge itself between the old tie rod and front axle.

Made up some new steering linkage out of 1-1/4" @ .250 wall dom tubing. Threaded for 7/8-18 left and right threads into each tube.

The complete re-wire is still in the works. This thing called a full time job during the week, with 8 to 16 hours of over time every week :eek6: was hoping to get more done last week. So I'm spending all day tomorrow (Saturday) working on wiring
