Slick Rock Run (Nov 14-15 or 21-22)

Just piled all my camp gear in the garage. Ive got a few last minute things to button up then im off. I'm hoping to leave the city around noon, so yes, I May make angels camp by 2. Matt, I'll send my cell phone number tonight. Other than that, ill bring my hand held cb (with external antena) and keep ear on channel 10.

For any one running gps, the way point is 38 28 8.0 north and 120 0 36.9 west.

Cant wait.
 
Looks like my 14 year old daughter is up for this trip especially if any other kids are coming?Craig we will give you a call when stacy gets out of school I took the day off so I can pack in the morning & get by the store ,let me know if you need any thing.:cornut: sean if you get off to a late start hook up with us:ihih:
 
Just need to load up, swing by the store, and fill up. Will be on the road by noon. Sean, will call you sometime in the morning to let you know where to meet. Looking forward to getting out of dodge :icon_cool:
 
Kids are off to school. Just enough time to do a littel more tweaking on my rig ,& load up camping gear . Will swing by store when I pick up my daughter at noon ( I think shes going just so she can get out of school early) ya sean this will be our fist real run with booth our rigs ( we went to hollister once together ,but I dident wheel the Jeep) cant wait:icon_rotate:
 
Had a blast, good times for sure. I was a bit cold that first night sleeping on the snow, but the next night it seemed a lot warmmer. The good pic's did not get taken by me as I left my camera at home. :mad:

sean had a slight pucker facter coming down a steep section when his carb acted up and stalled at the wrong time. Again no pictures, but everyone took a different line after that.
 
Had a great time :thumbsup: the snow made the trail a little more exciting than originally anticipated. Thanks cheese (Craig) for putting the trip together. Trip had a little of everything, great views, good food, some carnage, winching, and good company. Weather was perfect for wheeling, just a little cold for sleeping :eek:. You know it's cold when the snow 6" from the raging fire isn't melting :yikes:

Some minor stuff, sean seemed to be the one who got all the damage. His shock tower busted loose, and tore a big hole in the frame. He had a grinder with a cut off wheel, so I cut the missing frame piece off the tower and weld it back into the frame and then the shock tower back on. Joe's going to help him out and plate that section of the frame at some point in the future. I still think sean flopping on his side and getting no body damage was cool.:yikes: I think he broke a hub right at the end of the trail too.
 
A great weekend for sure. The snow gave this trail a new demension, making it tougher than I expected. The nights were supper cold. We pulled in on Friday after dark, making the choice to sleep in the Scout much easier. Who wants to spend that much time out in the cold setting up and taking down a tent? Maybe next time we have a base camp like Joe mentioned. Although the trail isnt as technical as some others, it will high light the weaknesses of your rig. Here are a few photos I snaped. I dont seem to have any of the cheese though. Camera shy?

Thanks all for a great weekend. The snow was a unexpected surprise. Cold at night especially under my fiberglass top (I think there was more ice inside the Jeep sat morning than in the creek :yikes: ) I was thinking how hard could a #5 trail be, then we got to the steps and I found out :shocked: so thank for letting me be the winching dummy (nice pic sean) Craig did a great job spotting for stacy on the way down the steps on sun :icon_wink: I think he learned alot.
All in all fun trail,great scenery,great people,& a littel cold weather. Thanks for putting it all together Craig.
 
I had a great time as well... Thanks everyone who was able to join! No body damage which is surprising with sean passing the point of flop and back without flopping if that is possible:yikes: I think stacy bent his rear bumper some more... Hard to tell it has lots of bends in it :icon_rotate:

Yeah I have a nice spot on front diff where I smacked a rock an a few spots on my rear diff as well, I smash the bottome of my front passenger shackle. I scraped my shock hangers. An I cant open up my tail gate. Its all just small stuff that comes out of a good time.

Exept I have a problem that just started last night. I turn my truck off an the engin comes to a complet stop but then suddenly the engin starts dieseling realy bad,like the moter starts to pic up speed then stops. What causes it to happen an is it bad

It's called pre ignition and its bad for the engine. Pull your plugs and make sure they look ok and don't have a bunch of carbon on them. Is your Scout over heating any? The other cause is a mis adjusted carb, where you have it too lean. I did notice you with a screw driver in your pocket. You really need to know whats happing when you turn a carb screw.

You could add one of these. You add an oxygen sensor ($20) and one of these meters and you can see what changed vs just driving it and see how it feels.
