Weise's Little Red Wagon

Since your Scout has all the features of a 61-62 Scout ie: drivers side heater box, no fresh air vents, early dash, solid bulkhead, and 5 bolt hole flanged windshield. It probably originally came with the sliding windows which have the larger frame and that distinctive shape. I'm running the same thing (roll up windows with slider window top), so I just bought some really fat weatherstripping and it works okay. Eventually I'll go back to the sliders once I pony up the $$ for the channel weatherstripping. So to me it looks like you have a sliding window early halfcab.

In one of the pics, I see that the current windshield header has the bolt holes on the exterior-side of the frame. That is for the "early" top....the retaining fasteners at the header are installed from the front of the top/windshield on the weather-side of the cab.

The "late" top had a windshield frame/header that bolted to the top flange from inside the cab. That's the best id point to be able to tell 'em apart...where the mounting holes are on both the tops and the windshield frames.

Yes, the current winshield has the holes on the exterior side of the frame and the holes in the top match up with these, though the bolts install from the inside of the top. On the other 80 that I sold, the top actually fit into the recess on top of the windshield with bolts threading into the top of the windshield.

At this point, I'm not sure which part is incorrect, top, windshield or doors. One thing is true, IH was consistently inconsistent.

We can study it this weekend at the rallye.

Yeah, so do mine, but it is coming from the passenger side port on the mixer box bolted onto the firewall. The later s80's and 800's had fresh air ports in the inner fender (by your legs) on both the driver and passenger side like the pickall's. Each side had it's own knob that opened the vent that you had to reach down and pull open. The early 80's and later 80's/800's have almost completely different ducting/air systems. The only thing that is the same is the damn 4 1/2" hose....:icon_rolleyes: :hand:

Fwiw, our 80 vin is fc64183 and according to the table on another site, this is a 1963, an early one, but still a 63. This explains the roll up windows but not the early heater/vent box.

Just checked the file and the final inspection date on the chassis inspection card is 1/9/63 and the line set ticket states "roll down windows".

All I know for sure is the top don't fit........................:rolleyes5:

Wow, that is definitely an early 63!:ihih: IH had to use up their parts from the prior model year you know! I think that for the top you're probably going to have to modify a later top that will fit the roll down windows by drilling new holes in the lip for the 5 bolt pattern. Otherwise, some thick weatherstripping is about all you can do for now.....

How about changing out the windshield to a later one to accomodate the later top?

Now you're thinking! Just got some paint to match.... I'm sure Mike can handle that! Hopefully there won't be any other problems associated with swapping them out....

You guys do know roll down windows means nothing right? The original Scout 80 of 1961 had sliders, but as of 1962 roll down were an option. Sliders were an option through the entire 80 line. Just with everything IH nothing is certain on these trucks.

Well, ahhhh, no, not until this afternoon when you told me. Even after talking to a bunch of folks at the rallye, I still don't know why my top doesn't fit.

We need to get with lonnie and do some careful measurement and inspection of his setup along with the additional parts he has.

Unfortunately, there were no s80 rigs at the rallye that were correct in the "other" version to gather info from as they were also not proper in other regards (like the windshield header).

Red is too well done to attempt any workaround drilling holes, swapping parts, etc. We need to see a correct one to determine what is needed, the parts list simply is not accurate in detailed drawings to use for this. And since it's most likely several parts on red have been swapped out over the years, nothing will ever be correct until all the pieces are correct!

This whole "year model" thing means nothing when dealing with these platforms.

I don't think any parts have been swapped out pertaining to this issue if the old paint was any indication. I agree with asking lonnie which I have planned to do. Looked at one of roth's s80s with the sliders and the top looks the same as ours.

The saga continues. When we get it figured out, the solution will be well documented.

Looked at lonnie's top this afternoon. The window opening is the same as ours, but the slots for the windshield mounting are more toward the rear than ours and no wiper motor cutouts. When lonnie mounted it on his rig, he redrilled the holes to line up with the front flange holes.

The first two pics of the gray top is lonnie's and the last two are close ups of mine showing the exterior mounting flange on the windshield and the inside showing the wiper motor cutouts.

Next I will check out the top drew has.

In looking at the pics I just posted of my top, I just realized I installed the wiper motors upside down. :mad2: I"ve been wondering why the wipers are stuck over at the sides of the window instead of up in the middle. Funny thing is no one has mentioned this fact.

I know what I'm going to be doing tomorrow.

Lol, I just noticed looking at the pictures! I am think to myself "Dad your wipers are on up-side-down!"

fwiw,

I checked my version of mt-113 (covers 80's and 800's but not 800 a/b) and it had 2 part numbers for the half cab top.

Dad, on the LST for Mom's Scout do you have the 5 digit code for the body? It should be 160xx.

The first is 862 298 r91 with the note -except bolted walk-thru bulkhead and front end sections-

the second is 263 140 c92 with the note -Ford bolted walk-thru bulkhead and front end section.

Ha ha, you noticed.

The LST says "cab 16014". Is that the number you are looking for?

Yep, that is it! I am not sure what it means yet, other then it should be the first generation of the Scout 80 body, which seems to fit what we already know. Now, the other question I have is I know the window regulators and glass are original to the Scout, but what about the windshield frame?
