This Is Where I Ask Dumb Questions ('74 SII Rehab)

So, to continue with the silly queries. Why is it the gasket for the oil pump body doesn't seem to be listed as a separate item? Pump seems to be in good shape, so why spend money on the whole kit:icon_eh:

'nuther one on water tubes. This morning I looked at the thread where the feller is having issues with his leaking. Said he honed the sockets:icon_eek: now, do the o-rings need to be seated on bare metal? If so, guess I need to wire brush the over spray out of mine as they are currently nice shiny orange:icon_mrgreen:

I think most folks who've gone to the trouble of pulling the pump and tearing it down are pretty much committed to the full monty. Maybe give the guys a call tomorrow and see if they can get you a gasket only?
Rust and scale should obviously be removed. I wouldn't think paint, unless globbed and goobered would cause any problems.

Okay, here's the next odd idea to pop out of my alleged mind...given that my Scout will be used primarily off road, would setting it up for manual operation be a bad idea?

Would this be converting the valve body in the automatic trans to full manual or doing a complete auto to manual trans swap?

Okay. You have me at a loss. Mayhaps I need another beer or need to lay off the dumb pills. What specifically are you considering converting to manual then?

Trev, I find that a good scotch ale will sometimes get me going:icon_mrgreen:

replacing the old t-90 (15?) with 727, and debating about setting the auto up for manual shifting so the silly thing won't try to do my thinking for me:idea:

Communication breakdown. I did have that possibility covered in my initial response though, but when you didn't key on it, I started thinking there must be some other possibility, but couldn't feature what it might be. I don't think going full manual would be a mistake necessarily, but there might come a time when you wind up regretting it. A shift improver kit is very beneficial to any auto trans. If you installed a transgo tf-2 kit, there is a provision that allows you to do manual downshifts at any road speed without doing harm to the trans. You May harm every damn other thing in the chain by dropping from direct to manual low at 80 mph, but it won't hurt the slushybox! It still leaves you with full auto function as well. I tend to think of that as the best of both worlds. When you convert to manual vb, you paint yourself into a corner to my way of thinking, but I ain't the one gonna be drivin' the sumbitch. Whatever will make you the happiest, will just tickle the shit out of me, cuddles!
