I have a 76 Scout II with at 345 and a gold box system. Tried to get it to start today after installing a rebuilt carb and after cranking the ignition for several seconds I would turn the key off but the starter would continue to turn for another 4 to 5 seconds. Then on my last attempt the starter would not stop even after I turned the ignition off and pulled the key out. I had to disconnect the battery to get it to stop. When I tried to reconnect the battery it would immediately start cranking again. Does this sound more like a bad ignition switch or a bad solenoid on the starter?
