Rubicon Run 2013

Well, it looks like a "go" for this weekend. Craig, Matt, and I went to prairie city to wrap our stuff up and make sure everything works. I learned I needed to do a little fender trimming and Craig needed to address a steering knuckle issue, but nothing major. My sliders and rear exo are built and installed. I still need to make a holder for my cooler and fix my tranny mount, but other than that, I'm pretty much ready. It looks like the weather is going to hold out for us as well.

My brother is driving down from seattle to make the trip he wants to go so bad. We plan on being at the loon lake entrance about 9am and hitting the trail no later than 10am. Hope to see some others there.

Fyi- this was just posted on pbb re: ellis creek crossing/bridge:

"new delivery date for the span is now Friday, September 20th. There will be trail delays between 10am and 3pm that day.

On Monday, September 23rd they will set the span. On that day the trail will be blocked from 7am to 4pm. The contractor understands that he will have to disassemble the crane and move it in the evening in order to let waiting traffic through, but you will wait all day to get by!"

I saw that too. Looks like we will be leaving 9:00 am to avoid issues.

My steering issue is just one more f'ing head ache. When psc rebuilt the box back in 08? The gave me an input shaft that was not in the best shape. So I decided to swap it out with another shaft from my spare box. But psc modified the shaft to fit there custom bearing. So I decide to swap all the guts on the input. But that is proving to be a bit of work. Will pull the box tonight to complete the changes.

I should be packing not fixing :out:

Sorry guys but I have to bow out. Family issues have popped up and I just can't get away. Have a good time and give cadillac hill my regards.

Thanks for the info mochamike. I agree with Craig, let's just move the leave time up to 9am. We'll meet at about 8:30. Sorry to hear you can't make it sean. Hope things work themselves out.

Bummer for sure. Jw and I are going to have to go it along

for those arriving late, you can give a shout out on the 805 repeater. I think Matt has a cb radio and he will be on ch 10

I'm not too worried about the bridge deal as it might snow.:dita:

Matt stopped by and we got the steering box all bolted back in. Hoses and steering shaft all connected.
Just need to pick up some more power steering fluid and make sure its all working.

If no major leaks, then I'm a go:cornut:, a quick double check of nuts and bolts to be sure there all tight, then start packing camping gear.

Accu weather is showing zero rain now . But it will be cold at night. I have a propane camp fire that offers some warmth.

I'm bring my 2 burner propane stove, and several bottles of gas. Your welcome to use it.

I'm all packed and just need to stop by the store to pick up some food related items. My son and I will be traveling together along with the dog.

Thanks Craig, but I packed mine and I'm too lazy to remove it at this point. We should be there about 8:30 and ready to leave before 9. I heard that the trail May actually be closed from 10-3.

Weather looks lame, looks like rain Friday night and into Saturday. The cold is fine, its the rain and wind that I would rather not deal with. Took the doors off the Scout and don't want to put them back on right now.

what time are you leaving sac? We could meet up.

Well, I'm guessing it will take 2.5 hours to get there from my place, so we were going to leave 6am to get there by 8:30. I'm game for meeting. Time and place? I looked and the gas station in fresh pond on 50 is one hour from my place. Want to meet there at 7am?

I looked too, and they all say something a little different. My brother already left from seattle, so I'm going. I can't turn him around now. My top is off and I won't bother putting it back on. Nearly all the sites say "maybe rain" on Friday night, and a greater chance of showers on Saturday. No rain on Sunday. As long as I don't have to wheel in it, I'm fine. So I plan on going in on Friday, I'll cover my truck with a tarp and won't uncover it until Sunday morning.

Hope you guys have a great trip. Whoever is going to Sierra Fall Rallye we should have a Sierra Scouts get together. Something to think about.

I'm leaning towards skipping the trip. Checked the weather again on a few sites and the rain chances have increased to 40% with 20mph wind gusts and thunderstorms, that doesn't sound like a good time to me :icon_rotate:.

Weather might just turn out fine, but I don't want to chance it

Dude, put your doors on and enjoy. I love wheelin and camping in weather.

Edit: but atleast you won't need as much time to get ready for the next run.:icon_mrgreen:

Had fun, saw the first snow of the season, and made it home in one piece!

It was a good time. I don't have any action pics though since I was driving. I have one pic of my truck at observation point on Sunday. Several of the folks who went have a couple group shots, and I'll let them post those up.

Todd was there with his Scout and gf and one friend in a toyota, then Jeff, then michael with Darren, then Craig with his son and then me and my brother. Driving in on Friday went well with no major break downs. We set up camp at buck island at about 3-4pm. The weather was perfect. When Saturday came, it started to rain in spurts, and then rain hard, and then it started to snow for about 4-5 hours straight. Not much stuck, but no one really came prepared for snow. We all had a good time watching some guys in stock toyota tundras making their way through the rocks at buck island. I'd love to see that body shop bill.

It stopped snowing about 9pm, and we ended up sleeping and waking up to a beautiful Sunday. We laid everything out, let it dry, then packed up and went through rubicon springs, then went out the tahoe side. If anything the rain was nice since it kept the dust down. Everyone made it through, but Craig busted a gear in his tc on cadillac hill and had to drive out the last couple of miles in 2wd. We followed him into homewood where he called a flatbed. I pulled into my driveway at 8:01pm.

It was tough, and the weather did not cooperate, but I'd do it again. It was a lot of fun.
