More dash work ..

Was needing to mount the traffic viewer..
No way I was going to drill a hole in the dash ... "No Sir"

There are two factory drilled holes for the optional electric wipers, my truck came stock with vacuum, had push in cap plugs in those two holes .. Looked a bit tacky to me so I installed the factory bolts & cup washers after being dipped ...

There was the hole for the viewer ...

Needed a flat surface for the viewer's mount, just need to get a M5 X 0.8 thread down in it ..

Going with a custom steering column firewall mount .. What I used when I install the 75 cutdown Cadillac column was the Caddy's Oem mount ..

Looks like a few days of work will be needed ... Lots of holes to fill ..
Did get the column patch welded in .. Hadn't drilled the hole just yet for the new mount .. Soon will do a test fit ..

Glad too... And thanks ..

Well, the cat came back !!

Got the parts back from the closed up chrome shop, I'm sure going to miss those people for dang sure .. For over 40 years they took care of my plating needs, to me they were like family !

Here's a world of their work that my 52 Harley seen ...

Think I'll run the VDO bezel as is on the Pontiac vacuum gauge ..

Copper can be seen bleeding though in one spot ... Ain't no biggie ... Going to keep looking for a better bezel,

Tricking out the tach & vacuum gauges with convex glass lens ... The factory gauges have convex lens, a better look will be netted with all having the same look ...

Another item that I intended to have chrome was a switch bezel ..
This was dropped shipped to the chrome shop, I didn't get to see it, only from photos the seller sent to me ..
All the switch bezels on the dash were plated, thought was to keep all matching ..

Once it was in my hands seen that it was in great shape only 70 years of built up curd ..
A little TLC and I found good chrome under the dirt ...

Think I can fit them to the tach & vacuum gauges ...
Got the same dome as the stock IH gauges, which is super cool !

Had to take about ..180" off the O.D. to get it to fit the tach ..

How are you going to get the bezels to fit with out bending them up???

The tach was super easy ... Pretty much was a snap-off, snap on deal ...
No bending the lip was involved ...

On the vacuum gauge, different story there ...
I bought just the bezel from a Speedo repair shop (Had a hell of a time finding one), it came to me with the lip deformed in order to get it off whatever gauge it was on ...

Don't look like there's enough lip to capture the gauge housing ..

449384376_10229731056239250_6725163472092338726_n.jpg

My plan is to use Two Ton Epoxy to bond the bezel to the gauge housing flange ...
Did the best I could with striating out the deformed bezel lip ...

Hope to find a better Series 1 3-3/8" VDO bezel down the road, but as they say "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush"

Don't look like there's enough lip to capture the gauge housing ..

Going to explore a idea to gain some room for the lip to capture the gauge housing flange ..
Just might work and just might be needing to order another convex lens ??

Worth a try, not wanting to use the epoxy .. At least not yet !
Sure do wish I had a better bezel for this gauge ..

Ok ... After thinking about the bezel I'm trying to use, decided to sh*t-can it .. And keep searching for another VDO Series 1 3-3/8" tach just like the one I already have ....

Using the bezel from it will get rid of the ........

I may have located one ...
Soon to find out ... Was hoping to find it my state, shipping would get it here fast ...
But noooo, had to be in the Hot-Rod state of the U.S. ... Oh well, I consider myself very lucky to have found one ... Dang things are like a ....

In order to net a clean looking engine compartment did some work filling unused holes on the inner fenders..

Engine bay side will see bed liner, tire side will have undercoating ..
After being sandblasted and a good coat of epoxy primer laid on ..

Already did the hood with bed liner ..

Since the IH trucks didn't have a lot of shiny parts on them to begin with, thought why not ..

Was needing some small parts for the Cadillac column ..
Tried to find Nos, but soon found out that 50 year old new Caddy parts have went with the Do-Do bird ..
Been looking for used ... Found a column from a 76 Eldo, although I'm not going to be using much from it, just a few internal parts ...

Might be using the steering wheel cause it has a woodgrain insert ...
That's a plus ... Matching the dashboard will add a nice touch

The West Coast bezel didn.t pan out, but did get some numbers to call ..
One of those numbers was a shop on the East Coast and they have a Nos ... It's on order, be here in a few days ...
Dashboard is getting very close to being done, sure was a chore getting all the pats together to net the look I'm after ..

Man, was this a chore ?!?

Not the work putting it together but finding the dang thing ...
Speed Shop in CA. hooked me up with a phone number, shop in NC had Nos bezels ...

Woodgraining is going well, now that I got my feet wet going to redo the dashboard & glovebox door ...
Wanted to see a better matching grain pattern from the two ..
Doesn't look all that bad the way it is, do think I'll be able to net a better match between the two pieces ...
