international loadstar 1600 carb problems

I have a 1962 International loadstar 1600 with the 345 v8 and a Holley 2980 carb. I ordered a rebuild kit for the carburetor and rebuilt it but the kit did not come with a secondary vacuum diaphragm and I think I need an new one does any body no where I can just buy the diaphragm? I checked Holley but I couldnt see anything about a 2980 carb.

You can buy those straight from Holley.com. Fyi there are at least 3 different length control rods available.

Does any body no how you set the idle mixture on these carbs? Everything I have read says to turn the screws on the middle section of the carb but these carbs have the mixture screws on the back of the carb so how do you set those?

Same adjustment procedure just use the screws on the back. Start about 2 turns out and if you have a vacuum gauge turn each screw in a quarter turn until the vacuum starts to drop off then open back up 1/4 turn.

Ok here is what happened before the winter had the truck running pretty good now this spring went to go fire it up and the truck wont run. It back fires through the exhaust when trying to start and is flooding very badly. I checked the float and needle valve and it looked ok and even tried adjusting the float to not let so much fuel in and still no luck just keeps flooding. So what should I try?

Not without pulling the fuel bowl. By then you'll need new gaskets so you might as well just get a rebuild kit which will have a new power valve. It's the diagram that blows and that's not easily checked.

I am still having problems with this carb it keeps blowing the power valve. Is there a better carb I could put on this engine that would be much easier to tune? I have heard motor craft carbs work is this true?

Newer Holley's have protected power valves. You can retrofit yours, or buy a new Holley here already jetted for your engine. Motorcraft carbs are fine if you can rind one setup the way you need.

This is what you need:https://www.Holley.com/products/fuel_systems/carburetor_components/power_valves/parts/125-500

Power valve “blowout” protection can now be added to pre ‘92 model 2300, 4150 and 4160 carburetors. Consisting of a spring, brass seat and check ball, this kit will effectively protect the power valve and is easy to install. Included is the proper drill bit size, with stop, to facilitate installation. Detailed instructions are included.

so for $15.87 you're good to go. Now the question begs, why are you getting the backfires in the first place?

Im not sure the carb just seems to flood no matter what I do.

Iirc you originally had a blown power valve and replacing it fixed the problem for a while? Where is the fuel coming from that's flooding the carb?

I think what the problem is that the float valve that was in the rebuild kit isn't any good. I noticed when I rebuilt the carb that that valve was sticky feeling right out of the package. Not positive though I have not had time recently to tear the carb apart but there is tons of fuel down in the intake manifold.

Yes some kits come with crappy valves, so put your old one back if it was good. You don't even need to remove the carb.

This is a stupid question at this point but what carb rebuild kit do I need for this carb? Also what spark plug wires do I need?

we'll.....you could get the "get you buy wires" or you can use livewires witch is your best get. But make sure you order the right style. Prestolite, delco, prestolite.

So how do you tell what wires you need? I cant see that it says anything on the distributor cap. Is this the rebuild kit I need for the carburetor?https://Holley.com/products/fuel_systems/carburetor_components/rebuild_kits/renew_kit/parts/37-396

How do I eliminate the vacuum governor on the distributor? I no I read somewhere you can do this but cant find it now.

Ok got a new carb rebuild kit, spark plug wires and check valve kit ordered. So after looking at the instructions for the check valve kit it shows how to install the kit on a 4 barrel can anyone give me some instructions on installing it on this 2980 carb?
