Hemi Scout

I am new to the IH world. I bought one a while back and have been making slow progress on it. Jeff has been a great help. Here are some pictures that show what I started with. I plan to stuff some 35's under it and install a fuel injected 5.7l hemi it. I already have the motor and will post pics later

Hi, I moved this to the readers ride forum as this is the more appropriate spot. Please post up details and plans for your Scout. Welcome, I hope we can help with any issues or needs that you have!!

I did the shackle reversal and got the hemi mounted in the frame rails this weekend. I also got the axels built and the rear disc conversion done. We were realy busy, but it was worth it. Have some issues with the front steering links but I think we put the new springs in backwards. I am going flip them around and see what happens. I am also getting with Jeff, to see what he thinks.

This izza great swaparoo!!!

I'mma oldfashioned 727 builder...but I've not messed with the late model electric trannys. So I gather that the oldskool chrysler pattern bell bolts right to the newskool hemimotor?? Whatta 'bout the flex plate/converter setup, what are ya usin'?? Any workarounds involved other than swapping out the chrysler output shaft for the sii shaft??

Sii output shafts are gonna soon become extinct if this keeps up! I'm down to only one now but it must stay inna IH pattern tranny.

And if you need that "special" tailhousing bearing behind the output gear for the transfer case, Jeff has 'em in stock now! The real deal bearings fabbed by bearing tech in carlton, or.

According to my chrysler tranny guy that toredown the ih727, all the internals are the same. The chrysler 727 bolts up to the late model hemi. I purchased spacer and fly wheel from street and performance. They do hemi and GM swaps into all kinds of vehicles. I hope I'm the first to put a new hemi into a Scout.

While I bought another one because it came with alot of parts I needed for mine. Previous owner bought the new body parts (including a used tub) to repair the black Scout but never finished the work. The black Scout has a lot of rust, every where. Now I am ready for some body work on mine and I have one to go wheeling with in the mean time. In the winter, things slow down in my business and ths hemi Scout will help keep some guys busy for a few weeks. Look for updates soon. We should make a lot of progress by the end of January.

My new wheeler needs some work also but I think it will do the job, for now. Who knows maybe I will sell it or part it out when I finish the first one.

We are making some head way. Right now we doing a complete re-con on the tub. How come restorations alway cost more than we budget??????

Got some new parts prepped and primed with ppg dp-40. I will never worry about rust on these parts again. I will be using the same primer on the rest of the parts.

The more I work on this thing, the more I get into the Scout world. I have found another one, it is a traveler and it is great shape. I can buy it for about $400. What do you guys think? Maybe it is just me but these vehicles seem to be growing in popularity. I have rarely seen these vehicles in the past but now I am seeing them all of the time.

Here is one I saw yesterday.

Wreck,
nice job on the prep work. Looks like you are doing it the right way. I know it is a lot of work but sure will pay off in the end.

Keep up the great work!!

$400 clams? Unless it's a rusted out hung of dog poo or there's a bunch of parts missing, I'd git it, but it's easy for me to spend someone else's dough:devil:

Progress has slowed slightly, we took on another project for a close friend of mine. We are still working on the hemi Scout, though. Here are some pics.

Here are some pics of my destraction. It is my budies 65 cornet big block convertible. It is a huges job. He has us finishing to body work and spraying a fresh coat of paint on her. The last car we did for him was a 1966 charger. It has won every show it has been in, including best of show at a blue oval sponsered event.

We will be hitting the Scout hard and heavy again, as soon as this one is out of here.

This is a little off subject but I found some pics of the 1968 camaro I restored back in 2002. I thought you guys might like to see them.

I thought I would come over here and check out the build. It was nice to meet you this weekend and can't wait to see the hemi Scout in person.

Nice work on the camaro, I have a '68 firebird that is third on my list after the '77 and '67 scouts. It is nice to see that you know your way around that body style as well as I am sure I will need all the help and advice I can get.

Well, we have made a little progress since the cornet has moved to the paint department. We about ready to flip her over and start on the bottom side of the body.
