Any Ham operators?

Any of you Scout guys and girls in the local area ham operators?
The disastrous trail ride of a couple of weeks ago, prompted me to stop procrastinating and get my ham radio license.

The ride turned into a mess (for some) due in large part to crappy communications. Let's face it cb is basically worthless.
If we had 2 or more ham radios on a trail ride communications would be improved immensely. Imagine being able to communicate over distances further than you can throw a rock.

So how about it? Anyone interested in getting a license? It costs $14 and a little time. I studied the stuff for about 4 hours over a week, and passed the exam. $150 - $200 will get ya a good handheld radio,
if I can do it anyone can! Dan? Monte? Chris? Jennifer? Mike?
I'll even help ya get started.
I takes more than one to communicate!

check out this thread - http://www.forums.IHPartsAmerica.com/chit-chat/907-ham-tech-license.html

A few other Scout owners are already licensed. Some day when I have a minute I would love to get a license as well.

That's good info. I read that as well as this stuff:
arrlweb: arrl home page

I practiced a few exams here:
aa9pw fcc exam practice » amateur radio exam practice

And here:
kb0mga.net practice ham radio exams home

The arrl website has info as to exam locations and times etc.

You can even get a book with all the above info in it. That's for us from the vacuum tube era, though.

So lets get a few wheelers licensed!

I am going to work towards it, I have wanted one for a while. Where did you study and test terry?

Carl, Mike, dan,
study the material in the websites listed above. Take a few practice exams, until you can pass them. Then go take an exam.
Exam dates and locations are listed here:

arrlweb: exam session search

I took the exam in dallas, since it was on a Saturday am.

Call or email me if you need more coaching.

so....you're calling jennifer a nerd?:icon_eh:

And terry and sue have been trying for years to git jen out of the basement! Or is it "crawlspace"??? Didn't she take that "k" band satellite dish with her so she can communicate with "them"???

All that time, equipment and money and in the end I would be like beavis and butthead on the radio.

"uh.. Er... Um.. He he he he.. Err... So ah yeah uh so like where do you live?, er over?"

I talk on a radio for 10 hours a day, so why would I want to do it in my off time with a bunch of amateurs?

:dita:
j/k.....it's still on the list of things to do when I get the time and don't have anything else to do.

With what you know (or should know) about radio it would be a snap to pass the exam!
