Any Ham operators?

So have you hams gotten a chance to go out on the trail and test to see if these radios will solve your problem of getting separated and not being able to contact one another? Just curious.

Well, yes and no. Since we are the only ones with a 2 meter rig, there is no one to communicate with. But, on the last trip to browns camp, I had a short conversation with a guy on the repeater in amity. That's probably 60 miles, partly through mountainous terrain. So, close in communications are a snap.
From my driveway in newberg, I can communicate with repeaters silverton, amity and goat mountain using only 1/2 watt. There is 50 watts available.
There is no comparison between 2 meter and cb.

Now, if only someone else would get licensed....

terry sent me info on a test happening at round table pizza
on barbor blvd & capitol hill hwy in portland.

I have emailed the guy and am waiting for info now. You want to take it then too?

I don't know that I want to go to portland on a Sunday. I think I will wait for one closer to home. :rolleyes5:

I have taken four practice tests and passed every one. That said I will probably take the real exam and fail it. Murphey's law! :rolleyes5:

nope, no basement. I live in an apartment:yikes: think most of my operating is going to be mobile for awhile.

Well, ya aren't a real nerd without vacuum tubes burning in the basement:icon_rolleyes:

you would be suprised how well a little j-pole antenna out the window works though.
