Advice on TF 727 rebuild

Hi all, I'm moving right along with the frame off rebuild of my 74 Scout II. I've recently sent my 345 out for a performance rebuild which will include decking the heads and block, squaring the block, main bearings line honed, chamfered crank oil holes, Isky 256/262 split duration cam, balance and blue print, open up the exhaust ports in the heads, remove the bosses for air injection tubes and port & polish the heads. Fuel and air will be mixed in a Holley 2300 / 7448 2 barrel, spark will come from a Pertronix ignition system and the exhaust will exit through Stan's Tri-Y headers. I only mention the engine detail for suggestions on my TF 727 transmission rebuild. I know the engine will be pushing barely 200 hp when all said and done. I was going to get a stock rebuild on the tranni and torque converter. Are there any internal upgrades parts that I should suggest to the transmission shop? Shift kit yes or no? As always thanks for any info. It is always appreciated. You can follow my build in the readers ride section. Its titled 74 Scout II rebuild / restore.

A shift kit is rarely a bad idea. Buttery smooth slip-shifts were what grandma Myrtle preferred, but firm, crisp shifts will keep the box happier for longer. A modification that is included with some shift improver kits will also prevent the fluid from draining out of the converter when the trans is in Park. This makes it so you can accurately check the fluid level even while idling in Park and it prevents the engagement delay that is sometimes present when going from Park into a gear.

I just recently had my 727 rebuilt by a shop in Milpitas. I purchased a front planetary gear set that changes the first gear ratio. And the shop warranties it

Off topic...you mentioned a line hone...Have you ever assembled a recently line honed engine that uses timing gears, not a timing chain? Hopefully the machine shop has taken this into consideration. Mostly with IH motors, the crank bore alignment is fine. They are a much more rigid platform than the Big 3 car-style blocks, and the machine work was generally superior as well. That's why they go 300000 mi.
Anyway, just saw that and had to ask. Otherwise sounds like a solid plan!

No I have never rebuilt an engine. The engine rebuild information that I gave the engine rebuilder I sourced and compiled from various IH forums. I do appreciate your input. I'm using L & R Engines out of Santa Fe Springs, CA, a very reputable engine builder that has experience with IH engines. When I did call L & R Engines, I told them to ignore any suggestions that may be incorrect as I may not know what I'm talking about. He chuckled.

OK, if they have done IH motors before, you should be fine. No harm in checking the crank bore. Its part of the deal. Just don't order up a procedure that's not necessary. A good shop shouldn't up-sell un needed service, so post up anything you're unsure of.

Dealbreaker74, your input is appreciated. As I progress on my build I will be asking for advise on the forum for more advise.
