1972 Scout II Mutt

Today I worked on the grill

sanded it down and coated the back with rust converter paint. Not sure if this stuff really works but it seemed better then nothing

Fixed a few little dents, this thing is in really good shape. I think this grill was only on the 71s and 72s

Hit it with a coat of sealer primer then painted it flat black. I debated on flat or gloss. I think this will tie in with the fender flares I plan to add later and is superscoutesq

Added the trim back

one of these pieces came off my Dad's old 72 which was too far gone to restore, happy to see some peices live on

I also started to wet sand the sealer coat on the body, went with 600 grit

It is looking pretty good, hope the paint lays down as well :)

Now its time to start putting stuff back together

Thanks for the feedback.

I am not sure what lift it has since it came that way. I am guessing that its a 2 1/2

the tires are 32x11.50x15 BFG a/t ko's

I like the gauges. Did you buy a kit with all the gauges or did you buy the dash and source the gauges yourself? I was thinking about doing a new dash/gauges if I were to do a full re-wire of the truck. For now I'm on a tighter budget and the new cvr I soldered in seems to be working great.

Thanks for the link! It never occurred to me but a programable speedo would make a lot of sense running different size wheel and tires. Good luck on your Scout and if you think of it post pics on your re-wire. I can use all the help I can get...I just pulled the carpet to find a previous owner had installed a mini-fuse box with tons of naked copper hanging around everwhere. :yikes:

Worked on the Scout today

got the front blinker and running lights working. Installed the grill and the B&M super-cooler

That looks great, my son has a 72 rust colored one with the same drive trane. Slowly coming along as he has no job to pay for squat!!

Started tackling the wiring

I wanted to be able to remove the dash when needed so I used the same weather pak connectors I used for the exterior wiring.

dsc02528.jpg

As you can see these connectors make a very strong connection.

This way if needed I can unplug and pull out the dash just like a new car

Started building the harness for the contura switches. The nice thing about these beside the look and the fact they are waterproof is that you can build oem style harnesses. These are the same switches ARB uses for their locker switch

Got the vintage air unit hooked up. Ac will come later but I have the lines hooked up under the dash and then stubbed through the firewall with a vintage air billet plate
