Don't sound like it was much of a job to install the brace ..
Although it took a while to do ..

Seems that GM changed the bolt size on the last of the Mark IV's for whatever reason ?
( Wonder why they did that move ? )

Long ways yet from being done ..
Wanting to pull the 406 sbc motor out so I can get color on the firewall ..

That involves moving alot of stuff around in the shop in order to have room for the cherry picker ...

Back to motor work ..

I'm using the starter that's been on the mouse motor for many years .. Been working like day one ..
Since it's in my greasy hands the thought was to freshen it up for round two ..

I'm sure spinning over a 500 ci hi-compression big block will be working it hard ..
So, I took it apart to replace the brushes, bushings and install a new solenoid ..
Armature got cleaned up and all the checks was done on it ..
Didn't really need to do the checks to it, but having a growler in the shop ... What the hey !

Didn't stop there .. Hunted up a cast iron nose that GM made in the late 60's/early 70's that was used on their Hi-Performance motors ..

The shift fork wasn't the same as what the aluminum nose starter used ..

1778790144421.png

Had a used starter that came from a 58 Impala 283 ci laying around .. Robbed the fork from it, had some ware on it ..
Found a Nos one on eBay ..

Being a 50+ year old starter the case rubber was on it's last legs ...
Part Stores didn't have any, said it was a vintage item ..
Made a road trip to a Generator shop that had them on the shelf ..

Needing to get back to working on the heads for this motor, one of these days it'll be in one piece ...
But not all that soon !
