2245 Carb - rebuild or replace?

Hey everyone...some info below.

76 Scout II with a 304/4speed. I believe utilizes a 2245 carb (pics below). Motor has been sitting, but it does turn over and will run momentarily via fresh gas. As expected, the carb will need to be cleaned up/rebuilt as it likely has power valve issues (percolating)....

Main questions:

1) do I bother rebuilding this 2245 (pending proper identification), or is there a better (and economical) conversion available?

2) if a rebuild is a viable option, what kit do you recommend to provide the appropriate gaskets and parts to do a proper IH application? I did read the 22xx sticky, but I'm not 100% sure the route I should take.

3) any other general things I should be aware of while tearing down/reassembling that I should take care of? Should I go the aftermarket route on the air cleaner/intake once rebuilt?

I appreciate the help and apologize in advance if I'm asking a newb question. :) I can sure add more info/pics if needed.

Check that....I think it is a 2210 (r7309) now that I did more research. Same questions apply above. Sorry for the confusion.

What do you plan to use your Scout for? Does nd require a smog check with oem equipment? The 2210 works just fine if rebuilt properly. That carb also has a few external parts need to be in good order too.

No smog check in nd that I'm aware of. :)

Pics of the ride/plans above. The goal is to make it a nice runner...nothing crazy off road and just to have a little fun with the kids. Not a daily driver by any means.

You can immerse yourself in this thread for guidance...

I'm not big on the 2210. They weren't all that great when new. My choice would be to ditch it in favor of a Holley 2300 list 0-7448. This is a very popular swap that does require some minor mods/changes to throttle linkage and air filter housing, but generally well worth the effort. Rebuilding what you have would make for a good learning experience and you might be happy with the results. If not, you could always swap afterwards.

If all the parts are there for the choke and the pull off diaphragm works get a neihoff brand rebuild kit and install it. If the carb is really corroded inside get the one scoutboy suggested.

Well, at the very least a learning experience is on the horizon! Carb is torn apart (individual parts paired up via baggy) and getting a 24-48 hour bath. I've got a wells kit in route (2g1263 or an alternate # of ck540a).

That being said, do any of you guys know if the typical kit will come with that little ring/gasket for the hot idle compensator? Or should I just plug it going forward (no emissions concerns).

Just missed this post prior to mine. The carb wasn't very corroded inside...just your typical varnish and bad gas. I believe the choke and pull off diaphragm are going to be ok. Like I had said in my previous post, I'll get a good learning experience out of it at the very least! :d

Here's a question....do I have a mismatch here between the stout powervalve and actuator that came out of the carb? It doesn't appear to be a match based on the 22xx thread.

would you post links to what your asking. A pic of what you have and the list# would help.

Sorry bout that. Info below.

picture above is of what I think is a mismatched power valve and actuator (power valve of a 2210 and an actuator of a 2245?)

it is also equipped with a hot idle compensator valve. Little black gasket inside is well worn. Better off to plug or try to source the seal?

My 2210 looks like the one on the right so if yours looks the same we're good. There is no hot idle compensator on my carb ('74 345) so blocking it off should not be an issue.
