Barret Lake this year

Hey marty,

thanks for the info. I appreciate it. Wow, $3k? That would not be in my league, but I'll check it out for the cheapest package they have. Not looking for perfection, just to clean up the cancer spots, get some color on him and start protecting it since it sits outside all the time.

I look forward to seeing the pictures and then in person soon too. That is an awesome wife! What color are you doing? I'm wanting to do orange, it's my favorite color. Also this way I never loose my truck. Lol! Does carl still have his orange rig?

hey Craig,

what kind of bike are you riding?
I've been on an '85 cr500 since, um 1986.

Marty

I would take my wifes bike. Xr200. I could take my sons z50r
I have not taking my ktm out in a long time.

3k for paint. That $25 dollar a gallon at the tractor supply store is looking real good. I just wet and dry sand it and spray it. If the dents and scratches are more than I can handle, I some got bond.
I use a wood palm sander to make it look good. From across the street it look great:cornut:

you can see the gate in the vid here and see how tight it is.

Stock scouts should fit. My body measures 69"

I'm 87" with full width axles and 3" back spacing. If I had some rims that were 5" back spacing that would take me down to 83.

I've found others saying its 80" wide. Somewhere there a pic with a tape measure

Lier lier pants on fire. I'm 83" wide. The link sean posted says the post are 82" wide. With the tires aired down, they might squeeze by. Funny thing is I wanted my rims to have a 4" offset and they made them 3". So far I never complined as I have not floped it, but that extra 1" would be nice now.
Come summer I can just do a test fit:dita:

What is your wms to wms width?

I've heard stories of guys using stock h1s with skinny tires to get through the gate & then swapping back.

I'm really glad to see the fs opening this trail again. I have a cabin on wrights lake which is basically the trail head to the trail. I grew up there, and can not tell you how many years the lock never came off the gate. It is an amazing trail and some of the most breath taking and awe inspiring country in the world. I May be a little bias but still. Have a blast you guys!! I will keep my eyes on this thread and May try to plan a weekend at the cabin and see you guys off.

Hmmmm....

My axles are 67" wide, with h2s which are 5.5" bs.
So things are looking good.

If 3" will do it for you, you bring the jack & impact gun & we can swap tires back & forth.

I am pretty sure that you will get in trouble if you are caught changing tires back and forth to get rigs onto the trail. The gates are that wide for a reason. I would not want to see anyone get a ticket for being past the gate and over width.

I will research this & find out for sure about the legalities of it.

If the fs/rangers say that is the case then fine.

I'm betting they built it just wide enough so that a fire truck could get through, not to limit access to misc rigs.

My truck is still down, but if Matt has a seat available, I'd love to come along. I have a book at home describing this trail and it sounds like a great one.

Think what you might, but this trail was limited by the members that work with the forest service. You know the classic pitting one user group against and other. To limit access.
It was done in a way that users thought they were doing the right thing. Kind of like with sierra trek and the fordyce trail, same limits. It's pitting one group against another. In the end the environmental folks are laughing all the way home. :incazzato:

the width should be to fit an h1

What?

In just the last year or so, cal4x4 relax the 80" width rule for sierra trek. The rule of a max body width of 71" stayed, but they dropped the 80" track width rule.
The barret lake gate posts won't be changing and will keeping the standard set when they were installed.

Don't assume, or read anything into this, just stating the facts.

Mike what was posted above will have to clarify over a camp fire

When is this happening?

I just swapped in my rear 60 & I'm at 79" wide with my rollers (which I think have less backspacing than my hummers).

I know there is some serrious interest in this run, this needs to be planned. Although it depends on the snow levels, we have a short window. I'd like to shoot for the end of June. Lets say last weekend in June, the 26th & 27th.

Does that weekend work for every one else?

The reason why I wrote that, is because I know why there is a width restriction. You should adhere to it. Also the reason why cal4wheel has changed it's width restriction is because they were alienating the comunity and the are starting to realize that there is strenght in numbers.

Ive been thinking of this trip and decided to get ready. I picked up a can of imported spam and will be happy to share. Who's bringing what?

Spam… I never thought it made it down to your generation. I was raised on that stuff. Still eat it - mostly with breakfast.

Will you make this trip?

Nope, not me. I’d like to see dave & dave make the trip. It will be good for them to get away from hollister. Once dave designs the cage for his truck, he and dave will weld it up. I always talked with dave about how dave needs this work done to his truck. Dave is ready to go. A few more trips to hollister and dave will be ready for barret. Dave still likes hangin’ out with us. This will be a first for dave. Same for dave...cool.:yesnod:
