Workday #2 after thoughts

• is it possible/feasible to mount a tube bender with a 1½” die, for a non-permanent/mobile application? If it is not possible, disregard and don’t read any of the following.

But, if it is possible, how about a future work weekend that would include more fabrication…Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Ya have the weekend to get stuff done and not rushed into completing something in one day. You saw the tubing that I’ve been storing for some of the guys. It was a group buy and they saved a ton of money doing so. Next time you guys order more tubing, have it delivered to me and do the work here. We will prep the shop just enough to get the work done for that weekend. Trucks can be towed in Friday & stored behind locked gates at night. You can leave your truck on jack stands overnight Saturday. There is also the potential for a Saturday overnighter for the right situation, though no engine swaps.

I can prepare you guys better with more tables outside. I have a bench that can withstand some punishment. Bring that table outside and set up the drill press, chop saw, vise, grinder, whatever. I have several other tables that can be spaced out on the walkway. Compressor works fine.

I realized Saturday that there is no lacking of qualified welders among us to get stuff done. I was always concerned Joe would get burned out and become hesitant. The way I see it now, it’s a scheduling issue that you guys work out. I will look into your power supply needs for the welders available. I also know there are many of you who are skilled enough to keep a tube bender busy all day long. I’m not saying that you guys create an assembly line effect, but…

is this doable?

Here is the link to the bender I have: (I have the 1.75 die).

race car tubing bender 1-1/2" round tubing bender

This is the same guy on ebay:
1-3/4" tubing tube bender sandrail-prerunner baja: ebay motors (item 160425626006 end time May-19-10 17:19:49 pdt)

You get what you pay for with benders.
I like mine because it has the bottlejack versus a large lever for bending.

However it is rather slow & it takes a bit of practice to make identical bends repeatedly. The higher end set up work much better.

Mike you can pick up an air over hydraulic too, some use them as they don't have to pump all day long.

I like the 1 day format, but understand that some projects take more time. For those more up front planing should be done.
I find I spend just as much time figuring stuff out as I do building it. Plus if you need a part, that could bring the project to a halt if you forgot it and can't get it at the local stores.

That metal saw Joe had opens up a whole new world of fabbing stuff. What I would spend an hour cutting could be done in a minute.

After I got it, I researched oil/air hydraulic type bottle jacks & ran into 3 problems:
size: needs to be skinny
stroke: has to be a specific length
tonage: has to be identical to the one in there

the instructions/specs are specific that other jacks shouldn't be used.:icon_cry:

steel fab table 3' sq maby 4' 1/4" or 3/8" plate top May even be able to finde some casters so you could roll it around. Could mount vise & or bender on it

That will be cool.
Casters are the key

seems like a lot of work for something that happens once, maybe twice, a year. We can mount the vise or a bender to my table. The plate you were going to use for the table top could be secured to the table top. When not in use, the plate could be easily stored.

Will this work?
