Well I'm still chasing my tail light / brake light problem. I been cutting alot of old tape off tring to trace wires that way. (wich have all been rewired at some point in all yellow) and I came across this little butcher job under some tape. Can anyone tell me what it is and its purppose??? Wires are just wrapped around each other with a spade on one end. Very piss poor job. Green wire starts at oil pressure switch bottom left of the motor, runs up ther back of engine connects with blue wire running over to blue (relay) box on right side screwed to firewall. Thanks for all your replies.

The blue box is an external voltage regulator. Your wiring looks like an electrical fire waiting to happen. Have you considered gutting that mess and starting over with a universal kit? You'd be way ahead in time and headaches in the long and short run.

Yes, it has been a headache fir me so far. I cant belive ppl would cobble shit together like they have on this one. What harness would you suggest I purchase? Im not frustrated at all about this I knew what I was getting into. I sure would like to get him on the road soon. Thanks again for helping me out once again.

This is to be expected when dealing with vintage rides that have changed hands numerous times and/or been rode hard and put away wet. Its quite refreshing to encounter one that doesn't have butchered wiring. Ihon sells the kwikwire universal brand, which is pretty good quality for the price. If you aren't planning on having too many electrical accessories, an 8-circuit version would be adequate. The 14 circuit version allows plenty of room for expansion, but is more money. Since this is a universal kit, that means it won't be custom tailored to your truck. The custom tailoring will be up to you.

I have seen worse hack jobs in wiring than this. And not just in IH vehicles.

Although, I recently aquired a 73 Scout II that has not been hacked and almost every oem peice appears to be intact  which translates to less of a headache from the p.o. Virus syndrome to work on.

I agree with the suggestion of gutting the old wiring and starting fresh. I'm in the middle of doing it to my own 73 Scout II. And I am about to do a complete re-wire on a 69 Scout 800 that belongs to another member on this forum. Today, I just received the 14 circuit kwik wire harness from IH Parts America. Awesome turn around since I just ordered the kit, along with other stuff, yesterday morning :cornut: outstanding

I have not completely gone through this new harness yet, but looks to be a good kit. Once I get started on the re-wire I will be posting the progress onto ron's build thread = "ongoing evoloution of his Scout" I will try and give more of a prognosis at that point.
