Wiper switch

Started truck for 1st time this spring this weekend. Tried the wipers and they went up, but wouldn’t come back down.

the wiper switch is making a “dinging” sound??

is the sound normal or sign of a bad switch?

Not normal. She's low on blinker fluid and your muffler bearings are seized. Well, I don't know about those last two actually, but it sounded right.

Lol, I filled the blinker fluid and the dinging sound persists!

trying to figure out if I got a bad switch or motor. Thanks

i got an idea sense the blinker fluid is full.
put 12V directly to the wiper motor, see if it cycles properly.

im guessing the motor is bad or something got jammed in the wiper mechanism. even though the wipers go back and forth the wiper motor spins one direction. i dont see a switch causing it to stop half cycle.

What rig are we messing with? The switch might have an auto resetting circuit breaker attached to it. If so, the breaker might be in some kind of a reset loop which could maybe explain the noise. That's a lot of speck-U-guessing with not much to go on. A bound up motor is certainly a possibility worth exploring.

I have a 73 1110 with 392 V8. I read about the circuit breaker reset, but don’t see anyway to reset anything. The attached pic shows what my switch looks like.

plan to dig into the motor as well

thanks

Yeah, the shinier rectangle shaped device is a auto-resetting circuit breaker. There's nothing for a human to reset. It does it on it's own. That's why I said earlier that it might have been forced into a loop of tripping and resetting, over and over and over again. That might be the noise you hear. Why is it doing that? The circuit is overloaded for some reason. Much like when a breaker trips in your residential panel, only those do have to be reset manually when they trip. Why did it overload? Might be that the wiper motor has locked up for whatever reason like the other guy mentioned. You'll need to check into it.
