Which Master cylinder

72 t/a 1010, 392 auto.
Am rehabing/restoring her. Hasn't been driven in years. Probably (and will) replace the master cylinder and brake lines. However, it appears that there a couple of different bore sizes. W/o pulling it off, how do you know whcih one you have? Or part number for correct one.

LST has brake group frt lt 04135
rr lt 04221
 
Knowing what axles you have might help. Not just the Dana 44 or Dana 60 designation, but also the axle code as would be indicated on a line setting ticket. For example ra 18 or fa 12. But really, the best way to make absolutely certain is to pull one of each from front and rear to see if there is a legible part number and/or take bore measurements. With so many possibilities, it pays to be positive.

These lsts are kind of a bugger to read but here goes:

these numbers are swahili to me!
 
Spicer 44 means Dana/spicer 44. It has a 3.54 to 1 gear ratio. The '14' portion of 14018 is the group number...in this case rear axle group. The 018 portion is a unit number with the '0' indicating zero reduction or single speed as opposed to a two-speed brownie. The 0011 is an assignment number that pertains to the specific vehicle application. It can generally be disregarded. 0426268c91 is the IH part number pertaining to the rear axle housing.

Looking in the IH parts catalog, 04010 (group 4 brakes, unit 10) indicates that the IH part numbers for the rear brake cylinders are:
391 074 c91 - left
391 075 c91 - right
those numbers don't mean anything to the crapa's, vatozoos, o'ronglies etc of today. I think I know which ones you need, but I would like you to tell me as much about your front axle as you can. Is it a driving axle (4x4) or just a solid straight (4x2). Find and provide the pertinent codes for it just as you did with the rear axle.

Also, it is a 1010 meaning 2wd. Can you tell what I am looking for on the axle on LST? I'm not seeing anything else.

It seems there is a 1" bore size and a 1-1/8" bore size.
 
Too early fer da tuhkillya here on the loony left coast. Somewhere on your LST, you should see code 04135 indicating front disc brakes and rear drums requiring 11 & 1/4 inch by 1 & 1/4 inch shoe linings. I believe your rear wheel cylinders would then have a bore size of 15/16ths of an inch. You have no wheel cylinders on the front since the hydraulic action is manipulated through caliper pistons, so the 1 inch versus 1 & 1/8" questions don't really apply in your case. If you had drums on the front, then you would need to know the front bore size. This is a common master cylinder that crosses to a number of vehicles including '74-80 sii's with the disc/drum setup. Ok. I'm a tad confused. I thought the bore size referred to the bore on the master cylinder. No?
 
Yep, there I go again. At least the codes are jiving. No, I believe those bore sizes are in reference to front drum wheel cylinders, not the mc.
 
Ah ha! This is all new to me. I thought it is the cylinder that is actually in the master cylinder.
Btw I spent a few weeks in lovely (sarc) cap parks for a guard school once. That place should have been decomissioned in the 60's!!!

In the vintage realm there are masters for drum/drum setups and there are masters for disc/drum setups. In the modern and late model realm, there are also masters for disc/disc setups. The front brakes are designed to do the lion's share of the braking. That's why in the case of some IH vehicles with front drums, the front wheel cylinders are a larger diameter than those on the rear, and there are two size options based on how the rig was equipped. I didn't get the cap parks reference, but thank you for your service.
