I have a loadstar 1890, beast of a truck, dump body gone, converting to flatbed with gooseneck and a drag wench, and rig the front for a tiller, I lost my skidder truck down what I thought was just a valley but a huge cliff, long story short, I'm alive, thank God for everything, saw this gem an bought it for like.. nevermind, anyways, for some odd reason it has a 304 in it, but thats ok, I'll feed it some steroids, sprinkle a Lil meth on it and blow the doors off LMAO, ok, I've had to rewire this over built GM knockoff completely, everything was either corroded or non existent, pillaged for certain, my question is, do I need any "special Ed" components like an ignition module, some rediculous ignition wire harness with 50+ wires of which 3 will be used, anything you guys can think of, speed switch, anything at all to make this beast do what its meant to (because I know IH engineers are like a mix between Bruce Dickinson and Steve Urkel, without the black so, super weird) I know you have to time it on 8 at 0°tdc but I got a Chinese welfare hei Im gonna throw in it with an external PFT2 coil because I dont like internal coils and ignitor conversions... yeah, hei, I got a buddy whos been working on this very same thing for like 7yrs, it'll run for a few days, die, and crank,no start, kill battery and I dont need those problems, I'd like to keep from sleeping in this thing AMAP, I attract bears for some reason and I like bears when they're not trying to eat me, which is never the case, these are grizzlies if they smell you, see you, catch you, they will eat you, especially the mommy bears with their cute Lil cubs which have to be put down also (a merciless mercy) and a part of my soul goes with them everytime, I don't like it and want to avoid it at all costs, God willing, Ive got 1 and 1/2 arms, 1 eye, and my face looks like Ryan Reynalds banged a Shar-Pe and they had an incomplete baby, God is Almighty, but I love my job also, its lonely, scenic, and an ultimate challenge everyday, over rivers, through the woods and get stuck in the mud I go

Wiring diagram attached might be of help.......IH does not do anything "special" or "weird",......just 1950's USA automotive technology.

If your truck is governed the carb and distributor can be a bit complicated, but they can easily be replaced. My 73 1700 has no electronics.

Delivery date on this rig is 66, where would the govornor be located, this has a F35 trans and 2 speed axle and if it has one, is it needed? If so, by complicated I take it you mean, tuning and timing?? I'm a bit unfamiliar with these, my friend has the same rig and set up with the 304 and hes been trying to keep it running for the past 5 or so years, he gets it fired up and sounding good, uses it and a few days later it just dies and doesn't wanna start again,
Thank you for responding

The 304 was the standard offering, especially in the earlier years, with the larger displacements being optional. Nothing particularly unusual about seeing one in this truck model. It's the screamer of the bunch with a whopping 4200k redline. That's some NASCAR style rippems from an IH SV8! A 392 is floating valves at 4k. The #8 timing that you're already aware of is the main oddity that tends to catch newbies offguard. Charging and cranking whirlers are Delco units. The instrumentation and associated wiring is MOPAR inspired, on account of how awesome it was...choking back vomit. You mention the roller coaster ride your buddy has with his loudstar. That could be any one or a combination of several things from parasitic drain killing the battree to a failed fuel pump that loses prime after days of downtime in between uses to...Without specifics, a guy could speckyouguess and spitball about it for days.
