Voltage at idle

I've been having problems running Rich with the afi kit and haven't been able to get it figured out. After watching the final Scout episode on extreme this weekend, I noticed they mentioned a painless alternator that provided full voltage at idle. I bypassed the ammeter some time ago and installed a volt gauge. When I drop to idle, I see the voltage drop to 10 or less especially with headlights on, brake lights, etc. If that does cause the computer problems, what's everyone's opinion on getting one of the high dollar alternators from painless?

Thanks,
jim

I posted this in mls's thread since he has voltage problems.

your charging system needs tweaked. It is at 12v at idle. Make sure you check out madelectrical.com for tips.

I wasn't a fan of the fix ian did using a one wire but he said it was a low rpm version.

The 3 wire works fine if you perform the sense wire fix.

I also did not understand them being lean due to low voltage???

But I wasn't there to see the before and after data.

I have a 10si on there right now. I used the info from madelectrical several years ago to do the Ford remote and ammeter bypass. At the time I put in a 12si but after a wheeling trip the idiot light (madelectrial) came on so I put in the 10si. I have a couple of other electrical gremlins to get sorted out so it May be just a good time to go through everything again.

Thanks,
jim

I did the sense wire fix years ago and it got me a 1.5 volts at idle. I think I went to the dash area as it was about as far away as the computer.

If you just jumper it to the output on the alternator you don't take into account any of the natural lose in the distribution system....
