Vacuum Valve Soleniod Wiring

Hi, I'm a new Scout owner and in need of some help. I have already found a lot of info on this site, but haven't found the answer to this question.

I just bought a 78 Scout ll, 345 2 barrel Holley (2300), auto, prestolite distributor ( points ).

I guess I have the typical vacuum valve solenoid with nasty crap leaking from it. I already took the rest of the emissions parts off and wanted to ask what you do with the wiring connected to this valve? Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks, scott

If this is the item attached to the firewall, I think you just toss it and don't look back. The wires have an enclosed terminal connector don't they? If not, snip and tape.

Thanks scoutboy, I think they enclosed. I figured that would be the answer. But, seems like scouts have some major issues when it comes to wiring. Wanted to make sure before.....

One other question. I have another wire that runs along with the wiring that goes to the alternator, coil feed, and a/c feed that has a red translucent male end. It dumps out of the wire conduit the same place as the coil feed wire. Any idea what it connects to? I don't see any female loose wiring close by.

I have looked at the wiring diagrams and don't see it there, it looks to be factory though.

Thanks, scott

Can't say off the top of my head. Any way you could post a pic or come up with an id # for that circuit? All factory circuits were labeled at the terminus ends, but those markings are prone to becoming illegible over time, especially when exposed to heat and fluids.

Thanks scoutboy,

International didn't make things real easy. Looks like all of the wiring is black or blue. I'm coming from the world of 67-72 Chevy trucks. Lots of colors in Chevy wiring.

Thanks, scott

Welcome to the darkside. Once you go binder, you won't go back! We just gotta git all that bowtie mind-control stuff warshed out of ya! I believe all the sii primary circuits were color coded as per the sae or ase whateva, whateva automotive electrical standards of that era.

I've only had 3 weeks, but took the top off the first week, I had to get the feel of it with no top:smilewinkgrin:. I'm happy with it so far. I drove it 100 miles home on sh t tires, a Holley dist cap on a prest distrib, steering that's sloppy at best, and no power brake booster. You gotta love it.

Oh, near mint condition in other words! You've come to the right place for gnawlidj and parts. If I had a number off that wire, I'm sure I'd be able to tell you exactly which circuit it is in a matter of minutes.

Thanks scoutboy, I'm hard at work right now:winky:, but I'll try and get a number and a pic posted of that wire later tonight. Thanks for your help!

Scott

Hey scoutboy, the number on that wire is 95a. I looked it up and it says it's for the speed sensor, but, I dont see anything that would relate to a speed sensor where this wire is located. Any thoughts?

Thanks, scott
