You guys interested in a "tune-up" work day? Dave and I were talking and we can have it at my shop in sj. Plenty of work area. No date planned, just wanted to see if there was any interest.

We can break out the bbq for lunch.
 
Sounds good to me. I'll bring the service truck. I see patients on Saturday morning until 12 so I couldn't join you until about 1.

Nope. Just wanted to see if any interest could be generated...and there is.

Any suggestions? Maybe early April???? Whatever everyone wants.

This could give plenty of time to order parts.
 
The drag link project is on hold right now due to lack of funds.
But I really need to swap out my brake booster. I should be able to get that done in an afternoon.
Btw do you have tools at your shop? Or should everyone bring their own?

This is an exellent idea and I am all in. I would prefer a date when the weather is a little nicer like the beginning of May?

I can bring all sorts of tools including a welder if cary has 220? Not sure about a compressor or if we will need one?

I would like to see the older (or more experienced) members help the new ones. I think the focus should be on new members or those new to IH getting some help with simple itmes that will give them a safer and more reliable ride.

We May need to do a second day as follow-up to items we could not address due to time or lack of parts.

We just bought stacy some d-44 that are set up for sprig over would this bee a good tim to do the swap?
Craig brings up a good point. It also May be a good idea to post up any specialty tools people May need brought I can supply some air tools welder small hydrolic press, & most mettal woking tools along with mikes & dial indcators
 
A spring-over swap cannot be done in a day by shade-tree mechanics! There are some factors that need professional attention such as drive train angles and front end alignment especailly caster. I had Jeff at IHOnly north do mine.

Axels are out of a running Scout & have already ben cut & turned by a reptubaul mechanic.I was told they tracked fine & bump steer was not a issue. My concern is brake connections,steering connections ,frnt end alignment & drive shaft leingth.altho that is to say I would never consider any of you quote shade -tree mechanics. Your colective knowlage of all things I h blows my minde !!!!!!!!!!!:icon_eek: :icon_eek: :icon_eek: :gringrin:
 
Do you have new driveshafts ready? Shocks, shock mounts, brakelines, draglink? Are you going histeer or a z-link? Are you using stock springs or lift springs? Depending on what you have ready it May not be impossible since the axles "should" be ready to just bolt in. But the pinion angles might be wrong depending on the springs and shackles the axles were originally setup for then you have to replace spring perches and cut and turn again.but are the bearings and axle shafts good? R&p's? Lots of things can cause the installation process to stop, then you have a Scout that is in pieces and waiting on parts. I am not trying to rain on your parade I did pretty much the whole thing myself soo it is doable (maybe not in one day), but I had to make sure that I had all the parts I needed, and even then there are some things that I need to tweak.

Speaking for myself, I am strictly shade-tree.

If your axles are already set up and the spring purchases match, we can probably help you swap them especially if keith is around to supervise. The brake lines have to be longer. I don't know if the end fittings are the same. If you haven't found the correct lines before work day, you will need a trailer or tow bar to get your truck back home with no brakes.

Doc, for a Scout II this is not true. While I highly recommend going with longer lines I am still running and have been for five plus years the stock lines (I did break one passenger front and replaced it with a used stocker) yea I am cheap and live dangerously! :yikes:

we can talk about this swap a little more while in hollister this weekend, but it is a fairly easy bolt-up if the axles are set up properly and you have the proper z link and fittings (shocks May be an issue as mentioned as well). High steer is quite a bit more expensive and also a bit more complicated.

For brake lines, you can either make the stock ones work (but seriously you should plan on swapping them eventually...Craig :nono: ):gringrin: or get custom length ones. Here is a link you might find helpful when scrounging for parts on the cheap.
