Torqueflite 727 Stamp ID - Decipher

Ok I'm stumped. Been making myself dizzy trying to find out how to decipher the stamp id code on the side of the case.

I'm currently taking my time rebuilding the 727 that I pulled out of my 72 Scout. And as I gradually go through the guts and doing vent relocation mods, I'm leaning to the fact that I think there was a tranny swap in some previous life. I say that due to the front pump oem vent location is what I assume of the '73 or newer variety.

Is there some catalog listing some where that lists these codes for id purposes?

Here's what's stamped on the housing above the pan for what I have on the bench
423979c91m3926
0801
either I'm not looking in all the right places or it's not listed. But I can't finger out how to decipher that stamped code. Any idears?
Thanks

The IH p/n 423979c91 is one of roughly 8 possible numbers that could be found on tf 727 cases installed in sii's produced prior to mid-'77. That means you have a full throttle kickdown valve body. I don't know if the m3926 portion is a date code or what. I have no way of deciphering it. Irregardless, the front vent was located in the same place from beginning to end of sii production. Its six of one, half dozen of another.

Kimball, I need to clarify my earlier remark. I was somewhat incorrect, but not completely. The vent location Was in the same place, but there was an early design that would be found in some of the earliest binders to have 727's installed. Those have a metal baffle on the outside of the pump and another metal baffle on the inside surface of the pump. The more common design incorporates a plastic baffle on the inside of the pump. Which do you have?

The 423979-c91 is the IH part number for the transmission assembly.
This transmission has the full-throttle kickdown feature.
Use manual cts-2578-k or -l section ab for rebuilding or servicing these units:
423976-c91
423977-c91
423978-c91
423979-c91
423980-c91
423981-c91
426210-c91
423976-c93 this p/n is a service replacement unit.

Later transmissions have combined part-throttle and full-throttle kickdown feature.
Use manual cts-2620 section af for these units:
423977-c92
423978-c92
423979-c92
423980-c92
423981-c92
426210-c92
441272-c91
441273-c91
441274-c91
441275-c91
441276-c91
441277-c91

Thanks trever.
The one on my bench that I pulled out of my 72 ole yeller has the metal baffle on the outside - facing torque converter with the plastic revetted into machined pocket in the back side fluid side. Which is why I' kinda thinking that there was some p.o. Swap in the past. Especially with the rtv snot spread around that I been cleaning up. But then again, some one just May have swapped the front pump

Okay, so that's the more common version. Doesn't necessarily mean that it was swapped in from a later Scout, but it could have been.

1975ih200 - thanks for the list. Helpful

same to you trever. To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised one bit if it was previously swapped. Ole yeller has a Dana 44 front axle, out of a later model Scout(post 74-75), with disc that was swapped in.

You're right kimball. It was swapped in, because your ol' yeller originally had a manual trans. I snooped through your album and saw the picture of the cockpit area. The brake pedal gives it away. Compare that brake pedal with the one in your beast which was born with an auto.

Indeed. Honestly, I never even considered it until I read your post about the pedals and without even looking at my 73 beast, and I took one glance at ole yeller and saw the pedal orientation, sure as dog poop you're correct. Nice eye.

Guessen my gut instinct was correct in trying to get as much details about this 727 rebuild as possible before I start throwing miss matched parts into it. I currently have the B&M trans in a box from IHPA sitting here on another bench, that had ordered last week Friday and received the following Monday.

I'm also looking into doing gear ratio change. I posted up a link to a torqueflite rebuild thread, in ole yeller's build thread, of another member who has been doing this very upgrade.
