As you all know I picked up a 64 s80 that my wife affectionately named "billy goat" due to the etching thats on the drivers wing window. This was ment to be my dd, but ruthie fell in love with it (I guess thats a good thing) and claimed it for her own. That story can be found here.

I picked up a 62 s80 p/u for me, but it needs alot of work to get it up to dd status, so I will have to get the goat in shape before winter sets in, so at least one Scout is in dd trim.

With the help of michael and his carb and 4cyl guru status, I managed to get the little 4 banger to run the way its sposed to. Today I tackled the engine compartment wiring mess, to see if I could get the systems working the way there sposed to. I completely removed the front harness and repaired the wiring to factory specs. Then I turned to the "no charge" problem that I found after having to push it home the other day, due to a dead battery. Searched it down to a non functioning regulator, that hasent worked for a long time. I removed the gauges that were installed in place of the factory temp/fuel pod. I left the oil and temp gauge working and will install them under dash so that I know wht is really going on with the engine, but wanted the origanal look of the dash intact and working.

Got it all together, broke the glass to he gauge cluster, installed it back to origanal, then fried the cvr in the temp gauge. Think I didnt have a good ground.

Waiting on a set of gauges that I bought from ebay and see if I can get some stuff to work. The fuel gauge never even moved, so I have some more work to do to find out why. :mad2:

Been awhile since I posted on the "goats" progress, so here we go.

So starting last week I tackled the bushings on the springs. The springs are in pretty good shape, not sagged out and still have a good arch to them. I took on the rear set last Sunday and 6 hours later they were done. I ended up having to drill the origanal 46 year old outer steel sleeves out of the springs and the frame......what a pain. Today I went after the front ones. Much easier, till I got to the aftermarket shackles with the large shoulder bushings, that didnt fit the urathane replacment ones that I bought. So off I went to 4west to buy a set......they were closed. Star auto warehouse......havent carried them in 10 years. Went by trish's, she always has a stash of 80 stuff........not home. What the hell, went by manny, moe, and slaps.......bingo, cheesy shackle lift kit, in stock, $12.00. Cut, cut......drill new holes and presto..........stock shackles, kinda. Pulled the front driveshaft out, the splines are all screwed up. Got another one but need new u-joints.....next check.

Found a decent front bumper and a set of 15x7 stock wheels with some really old 31x10.50's on them, like born in 1993 old. No cracks, but dont trust'em, so I have a almost new set of 31x10.50 mudders that I'll get mounted next week on it. Will get some pics up soon.

As it sits today.

Did a power tune and re-oriented the dizzy to the right location this weekend. Made new plug wires, and investigated the strange rubbing noise that I got while turning right...........found it. The "noise" was the drum rubbin on the brake shoes due to a loose wheel bearing. So I decided to take the wheel hubs off and see what I can see.

Why is it that people are to lazy to buy the right tool for a job? Whoever the last one who was in there decided that a cold chisel and a hammer was the right tool to spin the bearing adjusting/locking nuts and butched them up purdy good, so I'll be orderin some more parts on Monday to fix that too.
