Swap a T143 transfer case with a NP205

Hello All,

First post here. I recently acquired a 1973 D200 IH pickup, quite the diversion from the Ford bump side’s I am long familiar with. The IH is equipped with a divorced T143 transfer case. I would like to swap out the T143 with a NP205 transfer case. I imagine that the swap would involve sourcing the proper frame mounts/brackets for the 205 case and possibly yokes/u-joints and shafts. Any knowledge and experience will be appreciated. Looking at a 1972 parts pickup this weekend that I am told has a divorced 205 case. Thank you kindly, Nathan

Most of the 4x4 version of these trucks did in fact come with the divorced NP 205 case, so if you have a complete enough parts donor to pilfer from, you should be on a gravy train with biscuit wheels.

If it's truly a D200 than that makes it a 1974, which has the engine set back further than the 1973 and prior years. Most everything off of the 1972 donor truck will work except for the driveshaft between the transfer case and transmission which can be easily modified by a driveline shop.
