Summer Trip

Absolutely. I did it with 33's in my mid 90's land cruiser. It's tough because of the rock ledges, which make lockers helpful but not necessary. I would highly recommend sliders and some steel bumpers. The ledges will be tough on your rockers.

Thinking about going, are you guys going to be camped at the reservoir Friday night and heading out on the trail Saturday morning? I will have to work Friday but could get there on Saturday just would need to know what time you would be leaving.

I think, I going to walk the trail or ride bitch.
I picked up a new axle, but that's a lot of work to get done in time. Plus I'm out of town this coming weekend.

Anybody have an open seat?

Originally was thinking of hitting the trail on Friday but happy to meet on Saturday morning. Mat, we could hit up another trail/camp site and get to hell hole on sat. Seems like there are a few folks that this would work for.

I offered up a seat to scooter but he's still on the fence although id rather see you fix that and wheel it.

As for the silver Scout, I just threw a set of 35's on it I found on craigslist (thats right, I've owned this thing since 1997 and this is the first set of 35's for it). Rode like chit on the way home from my garage in the city. Found out the tires were ranging from 14 psi to 24 psi. Duh.....

I'm fine either way, could spend the night at loon then head into hell hole Saturday morning. I prefer the idea of getting down the trail Friday so we can relax Saturday, but am open if that works better for everyone.

Craig, let me know if you need help with your axle, I'm sure you would rather drive than ride. If you can't get it in by then you can ride with me. Was going to bring my 2 boys and nephew, but if you need a ride I could leave my youngest home. After seeing your axle, I May want to swing by your place to have you put a couple welds on my 14bolt, let me know if that's a possibility. Could come by on a weeknight to help with your axle and/or weld my 14bolt.

It's looking like I will need to miss this trip. I recently was offered some parts for trade off of some welding for a fellow IH member. Which in turn is leading into some side work of possibly building a full cage for another non-IH vehicle. As much as I would like to go and hang out, money be talken at the moment. All this will be starting this coming weekend and probably will last through the following week or two.

Cheers

Ok, I'll meet you Friday.

Michael/hulk, do you have a 2m radio? The trail is short enough we could come back up and meet you for spotting on Saturday.

Sorry to hear but there'll be more trips.

No radio for me. You are still planning on going part way in on Friday I presume? If so, where approximately are you going to camp?

The trail is short, a mere two miles. It's only 1-3 hours depending on conditions. The most difficult sections are towards the beginning of the trail, getting up to meet you should be simple enough. Just let us know when you plan on arriving. Well make it happen.

Going in Friday, but will run back up Saturday for anybody that May need help or doesn't want to run the trail alone.

I have to talk with the boss (wife) if I can either head up late Friday or early Saturday.

If Friday, I'll camp at/near traihead.

what time should we meet you guys at the trail on Saturday???

Check with michael, he said he was coming in Saturday but didn't say what time. Get together on the time and post up, and we will come up to meet you. I don't have a ham radio, but will have the cb on channel 25.

Mocha, we will be camping down at the lake Friday if you decide to come in Friday night.

It's about a 3 hour trip for me so I'm shooting for being there around 8 and leaving by 9 at the latest. Will be traillering the Scout since the 4cyl will not like that far of a drive. Does anybody know if parking is allowed overnight on the side of the fs road? If not I will park at the lake boat ramp and drive back up. Probably will camp Saturday night and leave Sunday. Everybody who is going up Friday, are you planning on leaving Saturday?

I'll be there Friday, meeting scouty on the way up. I'll have a cb (channel 25) and 2m as well. I dont know about where to leave your rig michael but I remeber there being a closed ranger station (edit: ranger maintenance station) very near the entrance to the trail. The trail head is not well marked but the ranger station is. Reference the web sites noted in this thread for better directions.

Craig, any luck on getting your rig ready?
