Re: What the Heck Happened to Uncle Mike?

so I take off from yacolt at about 7:00, and meet up with nick at 8:00 in vancouver, me in the Travelall and him in the 800.
I have a reasonable idea how to get to gales creek, and we hit town at about 9:06. Guess what, no shell station.
Nothing is open, so there is no one to ask. We decide it must be further down gales creek road, and end up in forest grove.
Well this stinks, so we decide to head back, and check around the route 6, gales creek road turn off. We head up 6, and sure-nuff, there is a shell station. We pull in and ask if there were some scouts in earlier, yes, we missed them by about 20 minutes, and he thinks the were headed to browns camp, so I get a map and directions, and off we go to mile post 33.
I'm a little slower then nick, so he gets a little ahead of me, but I catch up to him, pulled over, holding his head, and his buddy adrian waving me down.
They lost the front u-joint on the rear drive line! They heard a whoomp whoomp whomp and then a snap and then ching ching ching. Nick was smart enough to start pulling over when the thing started whomping, so when it let go all was well.
I suggested we drop the drive line, and they head out in four wheel drive high. We had no problem getting to banks.
I told the strawberry blond behind the counter what we needed and she gave me a deer in the head lights look. The guy behind the counter however, knew what we needed, and had it on hand, including the u-bolts.
So we headed back to browns camp, and went through some mud and I had to back out of one trail, but all in all we had a pretty good time.
Next time I will make a better effort to know where the meeting place is.

That sucks. The crazy thing is that while we were fixing dboys rig. Some guy drove by and said. "another one of you guys is broken out on the hwy" so we sent alex back to see if we could find out where. He didn't find you guys so he came back and we took off. Such a near miss. :icon_sad: now that you know where the gas station is. Next time will be better...

Anyone want to send me a hub??? No seriously..... I think it looks pretty cool and gets a lot of comments, but 4wd is nice to have now and again.

Holy crap! We had heard from a person in the parking lot that one of us was broke down on the road and since d-boy was having such trouble with fuel delivery I volunteered to go search for our lost and broken brothren. Which must have been you? Myself and my pasenger drove what we thought was quite a ways from brown's camp but only to mile post 36. I'm sorry. I should have drove all the way back to the gas station. I'm glad to hear you got fixed without further incident.

Looks like a ton of fun! These trips are where it all begins....

Then you start figuring out how to make you Scout more capable and still be a daily driver -- then you go a little too far or get one too many dents and you start looking for another Scout to either wheel or daily drive - then you get one just for parts - then...

And 10 years later you have a full blown off roading problem!!!

Tons of fun! I really had a blast . At one point my lowrider really sounded broke but it was just a case of big rock making a little linkage problem into a bigger linkage problem! A little rope and she was all better for the drive home. I cant wait to get all my stuff together and get this thing to clear some tire! I cant wait to see all the pics.

I had a great time despite my Scout not cooperating. For the record it wasn't overheating, just leaking coolent from somewhere. Never did start leaking like that on the way home either. Pretty sure it's the water tube though so it should be an easy fix, hopefully.

Thanks to tyson for letting me ride.

Looks like quite a fun run. This weren't no cake walk Sunday drive through the countryside meant to coddle stock rigs by the looks of it. Plenty of challenging mixed terrain to really test the stockers and even make the modifieds work up a lather...which they really enjoy by the way:ihih: just another high quality club run that long distance prevents me from attending...wah, wah:icon_crying:

I had no idear ya had a Scout eric???? When that happen??? Ya didn't git my permission!

We gonna see ya down here at the chupacabra smokin' on May 15??? Load out the radiator with bar's leak and drive!

Mike I've had it since August, and whats this about not knowing, you've seen it! I had at the meet up at ihcs. We'll see about the chupacabra smokin'.

Good news - found the leak. Bad news, probably need a new water tube.

Well looks like you guys had a lot of fun. I would have loved to make it, but I should be all ready for the next run. As long as there is enough notice I should be good (driving from centralia wa...about 2.5 hours from this last run)
