SR-2 T39 vs. Mail truck Auto transmission?

I just bought a 70, 304 SR-2 with a T-39 auto transmission. It's in rough shape but it's all complete. Truck does not start yet but I'm working on that.

Here is my question.

I have the opportunity to get a parts transmission (see pics) but I can't identify it because I don't know much about the auto's. I do have some pics of this transmission that is attached to a 196 mail truck engine. Engine is seized. Not sure of the year truck it came out of either.

Here are my questions:

1. Is this a T-39 trans?

2. If not, which trans is it?

3. Is it worth taking for parts on my T-39?

T-39 is IH code for the Borg Warner auto trans. The unit behind the I-4 is also a Borg Warner. I don't know them well enough to tell you if they are the same model. There will be some parts in common and perhaps some that differ, such as the flexplate and converter.
 
Yeah, I've been off that fire for several weeks. I'm involved in suppression repair for a different outfit on a different fire, but I'm able to be home every night this time. At least I think I'll be heading back out tomorrow. I was off for the past two days. Things are winding down. Fire season ends here tomorrow.
 
The T39s where pretty similar during the 1960s. Slight differences in the torque converters, the early ones where finned cooling and take apart repair, the later where welded and vent slots disappeared in the bell housing. Look for an ID tag on the driver's side of the case when ordering parts, it's important and IH numbers mean little at this point. I also like that heavy duty fluid cooler in the bottom picture.

They were a very heavy duty trans and worth fixing in my book. I'm still waiting to put the one SB gave me into my 1210.

The last time I priced a rebuild kit for one was about 5 or 6 years ago from Portland Transmission Exchange; it was around $125-140 including the torque converter. Do not receive any info that correlates these transmission with models used in Jaguar, Ford, FMX etc. Yes BW built those, but they are a different species compared to ours and do not have much in common.

Some updated transmission pics...can any identify this from these tags? Again this came out of a Scout 800 mail truck and trying to see if I can use it for my SR-2 with a T-39...not sure if the SR-2 trans is good or bad and I snagged this trans for free so just trying to see if this can be a good core/parts...I also got the bell housing, t-converter, flywheel, etc.

I can't say if those depicted numbers have any pertinence to your questions. My gut says no, but that is purely a guess. If you can find an IH part number, that would likely be more informative. It will either be stamped into a machined flat surface, or on a riveted tag, rather than part of the casting, and it will be a long series of numbers and letters.
 
AFAIF that would be a model 8 transmission, the number after the dash I think can refer to the transmission model number on BWs.

Seeing that both of your transmissions are in the Scout 800 line, I see no reason why they can not interchange provided the flex plate, spacer, and torque converter are engine compatible. The other thing would be the output shaft/tail housing. Usually Scouts had the 10 spline for either the u-joint yoke or bull gear for a 4WD married transfer case.
