sm465/np205

I have a 65 Scout 80 with a t90 with an adapter for the 350 and a Dana 18 t-case. I would like to go with a sm465 and np 205. Would the sm465 mount just like the t90 and will the np 205 fit with no modification? Would like to keep the current cross member.

The NP205 is a divorced xfer case that requires it's own cross member. So the short answer is no.

Almost every 3/4 and 1 ton Chevy in the 70's 80's and I believe the early 90's. Also fords of the same era.

So if I find a set that's not divorced, can I use the same crossmember I currently have for my t90/Dana 18 on my Scout 80?

There are both married and divorced np 205's that were used concurrently through the 70's and 80's. Remember that the Ford stuff is lh drop with GM, dodge and IH being rh drop. As for direct bolt in, zero modification using the existing x-member in your s80...I can't say yea or nay. Probably not many lurking hereabouts who could with certainty. What's the current powerball jackpot up to?

Easy answer is no you can't use your original Scout cross member. Complicated answer is you might be able to adapt to it but it May be more work than fabricating a new one. This info pertains to Scout 800's that originally had a v-8 or a Scout 80 or 800 that had a 4 cylinder and the front cross member and radiator were cut out and moved forward. You have to keep in mind how much bigger a NP205 is than a Dana 20 or Dana 18 t-case. Not too mention a lot depends where you weld the Chevy motor mounts onto your Scout frame. My best recommendation if you decide to use a sm465 & a NP205 that before you weld in your Chevy motor mounts be sure to mount the tranny and t-case to the engine and install into the chassis to be sure you have enough clearance for the NP205. Usually the clearance issues are on the passenger side (floor pan) and also at the very rear top portion of the case towards the rear driveline (transmission hump). And yes I am the guy who molest Scout's and installs the Chevy's in them. :icon_evil:
